2010 MINI S owner can you check this out?

Hello,

I got our new MINI last Friday and I just noticed a thing inside bonnet. The first one is my 2008 MINI S and it has something protection for the hood, but our new MINI S does not have one. Do you think it's missing from Factory?

Please 2010 MINI S owner could you check this out?

Thanks in advance.

Really I wonder why it does not have one I would ask. Can you take a pic of your heatshield on the turbo please cause they might have redesigned it. I have an '07. Also the insulation there will fall off it the motor catches fir to help smother it.

Ahh okay but I wonder why they remove it.... I think it should have.

And here is our new MINI's engine room but I don't think that it is different.

I haven't looked under the bonnet yet ... but I just traded an '07 MCS for a '10, and I did notice when I parked it that the bonnet felt a lot hotter on the new one than on the old one, and that was just after an easy trip home from work. Maybe the insulation was holding too much heat in the engine compartment so they left it off? I don't know, but there ain't room in there for a gnat to scratch its a$$ ... I'm sure glad I don't have to work on 'em!!

Well, the simple answer is cost. Like a lot of other things, such as, only one rope holding the rear parcel shelf instead of two, not pre-wiring the car for the factory alarm, and I'm sure a bunch of others.

FWIW, my 2010 has 2 ropes holding the parcel shelf...

Have they changed the material that the hood scoop is made out of?

There is no insulation for the '10 models. This was confirmed in another thread as being due to costs.........can't imagine with the shortage of heat insulated foam these days that they would cut out a $.05 part from production that helps keep your bonnet scoop from melting!

I want to shop with you if you can buy things (with labor) of a nickel. The isolation material cut and installed likely costs closer to $5 saved, if not more.

It looks like it still has the holes for the insulation but, the turbo stuff still looks the same.

Where did you get that idea? If you mean the 2010 MCS Hood Insulation thread, the comments on cost are pure speculation. It is just as likely that MINI found the insulation didn't help, or caused other problems, or the current scoop is less heat sensitive, or...

With all the cost savings they did to the '10 models, and the increased based price by a few hundred bucks no wonder mini is doing so well.

Much of the costs of the MINI is measured in Pounds (£) and Euros (€) and with the Dollars ($) value drop it's actually amazing that the price increase is such a small overall percentage.

i have an 09 cooper s, week 34. no insulation on the hood. i guess the heat from the turbo is better absorbed by the hood (can get really hot) instead of escaping out thru the scoop when parked.

I'm with rederik, on wondering if it's possible that by leaving that piece of insulation off it lets the heat out of the engine bay better? That insulation had to help keep it in there. With the turbo it has to get hella hot in there.

Yea. After Orangecrush's experience with the M7 heat shield after a track run (and no cool-down lap), I'm wondering if that insulation is such a good idea.

Hi...Sorry to threadjack, and please no disrespect intended, but I noticed that several people in this thread seemed to refer to multiple coopers that they own(ed).

I was just wondering if this was because:
1) they love the car so much that they own several,
2) they've needed to replace the car after a year or two because of reliability issues
3) they just like to trade it in...just because its the latest and greatest

It seems strange to me that people would trade an '07 or a '09 for a 2010, and I was just wondering why. Thanks!

BTW, I'm a prospective MCS owner, so I'm still learning about the MC fascination! =)

It's because the 10 has new features not available on early modes, like no under hood insulation and a 1 string privacy cover lift. Just those 2 features alone alone has me salivating and considering a trade up.

I have a 2010 and I have two strings on the rear parcel shelf. Where is this information coming from that 2010's only had one string?

2 strings here too. I think ONE dude only has one, and set off a national panic. Sounds like he needs to go back and ask for another one.

The one string report originally came from the UK: http://theswitchback.com/news/mini-d...-ball-for-2010 (last paragraph)
