R56 MCS BRG/Blk w/o bonnet stripes
MCS BRG/Blk w/o bonnet stripes
I would like to buy a 2010 MCS, BRG/Blk, sport package, without bonnet stripes. When I use the configurator, it will not let me select that color without the stripes. I could get everything I want without the sport package, but that would cost me more. I asked the dealer about it and he said I could get the car without stripes at no extra charge, but don't believe him. Has anyone had this problem?
I've seen that on the configurator, too ... I had to do a big of mucking with it to get the sport stripes on BRG instead of the bonnet stripes. I believe that the stripes are installed by the dealer, so I think your dealer is right. My dealer never batted an eye when I told them I wanted the sport stripes instead of bonnet stripes. Plus, they'll install either one on a car that came without them after delivery if you want, which further suggests to me that they come out of the factory without them.
Seems to me they should be able to deduct the cost of the stripes if you really don't want 'em...it's not like they're doing anything extra to not put them on, other than remembering not to put them on!

The confusion is with the Mini configurator. For some reason doesn't allow you to delete the bonnet stripe in the Sport Package if your color is BRG. If you start with BRG, add the Sport Package, then select No Bonnet Stripe in the package options, it changes the color to Laser Blue. Then if you go back to step 1 to select the color again, rolling over BRG says 'THIS ITEM IS NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL YOU REMOVE NO BONNET STRIPES.' BRG is the only color it does that for. Crazy. I wonder how much extra Flash coding it took to do that ... and why.
Yes, I think it's a software problem. Anyway I ordered the car, hopefully I'll get what I want. I was told I check the order and make changes, if needed, after I get the VIN number. Thanks for your comments,
As soon as the car is scheduled (at the factory) for production it is too late to make changes. You may only have a day or two before the order is frozen and cannot be altered. The exception is for items installed by the dealer.
