Starter change anyone?

Has anyone in the club changed a starter themselves on a r53? Looks like my electrical issue could be the starter. Just wondering if I can get to the starter easy having the car just up on wheel ramps.

I have read his, and it is on a r50. I did not know if the r53 is different on that.

The starter is a pain to get to... You'll probably have to pull the exhaust manifold heatshield, disconnect the o2 sensors, pull the manifold itself off, and then pull the starter heatshield off. Then you just pull the wires off, undo 3 bolts i believe, and remove and replace. The bentley has good info on it. I just got done swapping my engine, and it was an easy job with the engine and tranny out, but there isn't much room to work in there. also keep in mind that the bolts and nuts for the manifold are corroded on pretty well! I hope this helps.

That does help. Does it look like something to get to from underneath or from above? I wish I had the Bentley manual, but have not sprung for that yet.

You can't pull the connectors off from the bottom. The top is the way to go. You can borrow my manual if you like, but I am down in Aurora.

Ok, I might have to take you up on the loan of the manual. Are you going to go on the Children's Hospital run or be at the group Meeting?

I was thinking about riding my gixxer on the childrens hospital motorcycle run. Forgive me as I am not familiar with the mini events yet. I just got furloughed from my airline job and am back in denver for the first time in a few years. (as in not flying back and forth from denver). When are the events. Be happy to loan the manual. I'll need it back sort of soon though as I have a few more maintenance items to do in the near future.

The Children's Hospital Run is Sunday Dec. 13th, and the Group Meeting is before that Tuesday Dec. 8th. I would barrow it and probably scan the pages I need, that way I could get it back to you pretty quick. I am up in Longmont.
