I was just looking things up on miniusa.com, and it says there that the MCS has 163bhp. But I've been hearing a lot of quotes of 200bhp, without mods. What am I missing?

Your missing engine mods.

The base MINI Cooper S sits at 163 HP. The John Cooper Works upgrade as well as aftermarket upgrades are what brings the MCS to 200 HP and up.

Ah, okay, so that's why the weight/power ratio is so high.

What you're missing is "getting the dealer to put it in writing". Once it is in writing, buy one. Take it to a dyno it to prove to them it is not making the claimed 200hp forcing them to mod the car up to 200hp for FREE!
