09 MCS seat has "dandruff"

My 09 MCS has about 9k miles on it. For the past few months I have notices that the seat area of the drivers side has white granules on it. They tend to collect at at the back edge, but there is also white particles that collect in the plastic well under the e- brake.

I have cleaned this stuff up multiple times, to only have it appear again.

Someone suggested that the seat foam is disintegrating under the cloth and working it's way upward.

Anyone else out there having this issue

Thanks

Don

I know exactly what your'e talking about, my mcs has this "condition" but I have no idea where it comes from. It is a little weird, I even find it around the shifting boot but mostly on my seat.

It is excess deodorant. You're applying too much or not enough pressure.

I have cloth seats in my 2007 MCS. Haven't seen anything like that. I occasionally find a dime or quarter, but no white flakes.

I've got the "leatherette" in my '09 Cooper, and have noticed something similar. It almost looks like small food crumbs, but I don't eat (or allow eating) in my car at all. I suspect that it's some kind of by-product of the build process, so hopefully it will eventually go away.

Seriously, this is what my seat problem was, it was coming from my underarm deodorant!

Its seat cosmoline. They spray the seats before leaving the factory to help prevent British bugs from making their home in the seat. Just powerwash the seats two or three times and you will be good.

Markusw's "theory" does make some sense as strange as it sounds and regarding "Mini Cooper Mini's" about the "cosmoline" from England and its bugs sounds even stranger. I think one way of finding out this "situation" is to go a couple of days without deodorant !

I forgot to mention that there is also a large spot (approx 10" in diameter) that looks like a "white stain".

I know some of you fast drivers out there are used to a large brown stain, but this appears to almost look like a bleached out area. If I clean it with uphostery cleaner (same stuff I have used on my other vehicles for years) it will look pretty good for a day or two, but always comes back.

I am going to have my dealer take a look at it when I go in for servicing.

Thanks in advance for all the wise cracks this post will receive.

D.
