Annual Toys for Tots Drive and meet event
Annual Toys for Tots Drive and meet event
This info is from Kokomo (organizer for Toys for Tots drive last year).
For anyone that belongs to a car club in Hawaii/Oahu
Informational Meeting- please attend to represent your car club
Date: September 19th, 2009
Location: Airport Starbucks (by Big Kahuna's)
Time: 7pm (maybe one hour)
Toys for Tots Main Event: November 28th, 2009. Times are TBA
Drive to Kaneohe Marine Corps Base for toy drop off and maybe event with live music.
Someone needs to go if possible to represent your car club.
No obligation to participate or attend, just to get your input and feedback and hopefully your club's support.
Last year the Oahu Car clubs met at Kapolei K mart parking lot in the morning and drove over to Kaneohe in small groups to drop off toys on the Marine base. The Marine commander liked the participation so much he offered to make it bigger this year with entertainment for the car clubs on base.
I posted a similar announcement for this on HMMC forum site.

OK, I went to the meeting tonight.
Had about 10 clubs represented.
All car clubs and others are invited to participate.
The goal is to provide toys in support of Toys for Tots (not toys) and drop them off at Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station.
Nov 28, 2009 Saturday.
Meet up in the parking lot at Kmart Kapolei from about 9 to 1130am Buy toys for Kmart in Kapolei that morning to support them and for thanking them for allowing us to use their parking lot. No little deal because other locations turned us down.
Pick up military passes for the Toy drop off on Base from the event organizer before we leave in waves by clubs from 1130am. Drive any way you want and arrive at the base with passes after 12 noon. Show your pass but have your ID, registration, insurance ready but it's likely you will be waved on by if you arrive in clubs. About 250 to 300+ cars are expected. You will be given a map of where to go at the gate and head over to Hanger 1.
The marines will have-
Large area for parking- you can find a place and park by club
Free music by the Marine band
Food for sale made by Marine staff/community service volunteers
Clothes and souvenirs for sale supporting our troops.
We will have a Car show and shine- show off your rides.
Maybe a raffle for all those who drop off a toy- pick up a ticket in exchange for your donation.
Stay at Hangar 1 until 3pm then the event ends.
You are free to drop off the toys and go your own way but you can't just drive around on base.
You are responsible for watching all the speed limits and laws getting to the base and while on the base.
This is a completely volunteer and low budget event that benefits the kids.
Thanks for any support you can provide.

2010 Toys for Tots drive and meet up
All persons and car clubs are invited to participate in the annual Toys for Tots drive and meet up on Nov 27 saturday
Only individuals should go to Keehi Lagoon this year due to the parks dept wanting less congestion. All car clubs are encouraged to get passes for KMCAS early and drive directly to the event about 1100am or later with the event closing at 3pm
I have passes and can print some for each person- just need to know how many will come along for that day. I can email you a copy or send it.
The vehicle pass for the upcoming car show for participants are to be put on the dashboard and shown at the entry guard gate. There is a great lineup of entertainment for that afternoon -- four different bands playing! MCCS will have their food and drink tents set up, as well as a souvenir tent for people who want t-shirt and ball caps. Main gate opens at 11 a.m. that day, and the event will end at 3 p.m.

A little different this year-
Toys 4 Tots Show and Shine
All car clubs (and independents too!) are invited to participate in the Toys 4 Tots 2011 Show and Shine. This year, the Aloha Mustang and Shelby Club of Hawaii is hosting a Show and Shine for all Toys 4 Tots participants after they drop off their toys. This is an informal event - no trophies, no assigned parking spaces, etc. It's just a chance for island gearheads to gather, talk story, and take a look at all the beautiful (and not-so-beautiful) cars that participate in this year's Toys 4 Tots.
The drop-off location is a very large parking lot so there will be a lot of space to spread out and you can set up a tent if you so desire (no shade anywhere in the parking lot). There will not be any food or beverage available, so feel free to bring your own lunch and refreshments. Please NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES!. You might also want to bring sunscreen, hat, and a chair.
If you club is going to participate in the Show and Shine, please give Steven Onoue a call at 808-389-8640 or send himemail so that we have some idea how many clubs will be there.
Here's the details:
When: Sunday, November 27, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
Where to meet: There is no central place to meet before cruising to the drop-off location. It will be up to each club to decide if they are going to cruise together to the drop-off location, or just meet at the drop-off location.
Drop-off location: The drop-off location is at 100 Ohe St. in Kaka'ako (map). This is a large parking lot located across the street from the Children's Discovery Museum, close to Kaka'ako Waterfront Park. The Toys 4 Tots collection trucks will be in this parking lot. You can drop off your toys any time between 9:00 am and 12:30 pm.
What to bring: New, UN-wrapped toys, and if you're going to hang around for the Show and Shine: chairs, lunch, drinks, sunscreen, hat, tent, etc.
Who to contact: Steven Onoue - you can call him at 808-389-8640 or send him email. sonoue@hawaii.rr.com

I went and did not see many MINIs
There were a lot of cars
I would expect this event to happen again for next year
Get organized and show up if you can.
Drive in as a group so you can park together
Plenty of parking but not much for food or vendors.
The Marine band was missed.
