205/55/16 Winter Tire on R56 Cooper S?

Hi there,

I was looking at 195/55/16 winter tires. Will 205/55/16 fit on my R56 Cooper S fit as well.

What's really the difference? Will both fit on the same rim(s)?

Cheers,
Dertef

yes, but you'll get better winter performance from the 195s. narrower tires are better for winter driving. won't be quite as good as dry performance with a wider tire, but winters are generally so squishy that it won't matter which you get in the dry.

205/55/16 would be 1/2 inch wider, and 1/2 inch taller than 195/55/16.

Yes but my question to that is... Will it rub?

I just purchased some 16 inch Mini Mags and have a pair of 205/55/16 studded winter tires from my mazda lease last winter hanging around.

I was told to put 205/50/16 on my Mini... Im wondering if I could get away with putting on that extra inch.

I have No rub with my 205 55 16s, but they are not studded and not on factory wheels.

I dont think studded would really make a difference if they are or not.

What would change on having factory wheels and aftermarket wheels? Why would one touch more than another?

Depending on the wheel's offset it might rub the inner wheel well outer edge if the offset is not enough. Granted it would take quite a difference for that to happen with only a 1/2" taller tire. Gut tells me if you haven't lowered your Mini you sould be just fine. Use the 205's and wear them out and when you get replacements go with a 195 size.

BTW I use 195/55 16 Michelin X-ice studless tires for playing in the snow!
