Air Box Inlet Tube Re-Install?

After much pain and cursing, I got the inlet tube off so I could wrap it in thermal reflective tape. I've run out of bad words trying to re-install and have it stay put on the air box end. Is there some trick, or do I have to pull off the top of the air box to have room? Along with the O-ring seal, it appears to have a bayonet lock on it. Need help as the blood trail is getting grim.

i think it might be easier to just take the air box out and install it as one?

Ive only ripped mine out lol. Its like one screw and it tilts out of rubber grommets.

I think it does sort of a twist-in-and-lock action?

dont remember too well, but like i said, i'd take the air box out

i assume its the 6 to7 part

Dwight,

Refering to the diagram posted, are you taliking about part 7/8 or part 10?

If it is part 7/8, just tilt the airbox forward, fit the tube in and tilt it back to lock, just like iwash mentioned.

Reluctant Blood Donor

Thanks Buckets! Sort of suspected I'd have to pull the air box to get at it. Got caught being lazy. That diagram is worth it's weight! Where'd you get it? Along with the air box, I'll have to pull the STB. Oh well, time to give blood again.

Nope, it's parts 6-7. Thanks anyhow. DW

Part 7 goes into part 6 using bayonet fittings. hold the long end up at about 45 degrees and then angle it toward the fender. Slip the back in, bring it back square and twist it down. It is tight, but should go right in.
