One touch Sunroof module from Out Motoring...

I know there has been some posts about this and I just wanted to say if anyone being apprehensive or procrastinating about getting the one touch sunroof module from Aaron at Out Motoring, well DON'T.

That has got to be one of the best mods I've ever installed in my car. My H2 has it and I could never figure out why a BMW/Mini line doesn't come with it... especially for me who spends a lot of time outside of my shop. The very first thing I do is use the bluetooth and roll down the windows along with the sunroof.

Because most of my phone calls are business, I immediately have to roll up the windows and close the sunroof so it's quiet.

Have you ever tried to drive, shift, roll up windows and hold the button to close the sunroof while driving?

Well, never again... two quick flicks and the sunroof opens or closes by itself.

The part is priced at a modest 40 something dollars...well worth it. The instructions are well written and including soldering the wires, the whole installation didn't take 30 minutes.

I can honestly say that the sunroof module was the icing on the cake...

Thanks Aaron for offering such a great item.

Mark

I'd say a 2.... it's simple but you don't have to solder them. You can use suitcase connectors (scotchlocks) if you'd like. I personally don't like scotchlocks so I soldered the wires.

Definitely....

Absolutely, I don't understand why they didn't. It's really a PIA to hold the button and shift at the same time.

I like it.

I don't get it....shipping shouldn't be more than 10-15 dollars. If you need any help, let me know, I don't mind shipping it to you.

I think United States Post Office has reasonable international shipping costs. I remember sending something very small to England for about $15.

I haven't had a chance to go to the post office but that was the reason I offered it to him. Shipping shouldn't be more than 10-15 bucks. (of course, OutMotoring will probably charge me about 6 bucks)

You add 15 (on the outside) plus the 6 they charge me plus 49 for the part itself and he's got 70 into the module. (65 if they charge 10 bucks and I honestly can't see why it would be more than 10 bucks)

Before I mock up a box with similiar weight and size, if BrightWhite thinks this is the range he expects to pay, then I'll actually mock up a box and get an exact number.

Brightwhite, if you read this, let me know.

Yeah, the only option they had was UPS for $105. Hey Mark, tell you what. Let me contact Out Motoring directly rather than you taking your own time, as much as I appreciate it.

Inquiring minds want to know:

I've read on several other threads that when you do an electrical system modification, it alters the system in such a way that MINI's automated computer diagnostics are not able to function properly. As I recall, one poster said he had to remove the mod and reinstall the original so that the diagnostics would work (this was important to him because the car was still under warranty and his dealer said they were unable to diagnose the unrelated problem until the system was restored to its factory condition).

Is this a possibility with this mod? Seems like a PIA to remove and reinstall, if you need diagnostics performed for some other reason.

I've done the auto sport button mod and not had any trouble with the dealer reviewing the computer diagnostics. I really don't even think they are aware it is installed.

The very first thing I do is use the bluetooth and roll down the windows along with the sunroof.

Because most of my phone calls are business, I immediately have to roll up the windows and close the sunroof so it's quiet.

Ain't that the truth! Just happened to me yesterday. This one is definitely on my list of mods.

No problem, if they won't change the way they want to ship, don't hesitate to let me know, I have no problem helping another member out.

That sounds like UPS Worldwide Express, UPS Standard (Ground) from Washington State is usually ~US$13.00, but UPS is probably the most expensive choice on the customs side of things for a low-value item crossing the border. They'll be required to declare it as an item for sale and include an invoice- you'll get a brokerage fee and a customs fee, along with taxes.

As recommended above, USPS Priority Mail is the way to go. Depending on who you have send it, they may still have to include a customs declaration, but from what I've heard back from my customers it still ends up being less expensive.

It depends on the mod ... but I strongly suspect that that's not ever going to be the case here, because all you're really doing is adding the equivalent of a second switch to the wiring where the original roof-switch runs --

The KP box you buy is basically wired "in-parallel" with the roof toggle-switch (like an alternate second switch). When it detects that you've pulled the toggle twice in a short time, it essentially takes over and continues to do the same thing electronically that you would do manually if you held the toggle ON for several more seconds. In electrical terms, it's kinda like when you have two light-switches in your house at two ends of a hallway for the same light fixture; either one will do the job ... you've just added one here that works a little differently than the other -- and the OBC shouldn't care if there's one "switch" or two out there.

I bought this item last month, and am also very happy with it; I'm an electrical engineer who has made other e-mods to BASIL, but decided that KP's $50 box was neater and more time-efficient to buy than something I could design myself. I also spent a little extra time to double-check myself on each wire-splice so that I wouldn't have a hassle with the OBC later.

If you can handle car-stereo wiring, you can deal with this mod ... recommended.

R53= no Auto windows (legal issues in US models), but it has auto sunroof

R56- solved auto up window problem, no auto sunroof? Not sure what happened here but I think MINI dropped the ball on the sunroof

I have the KP sourced auto-open sunroof and auto sport button. Basil49 is correct. These simply take the place of the switch. It is transparent to the ECU. I have had a software upgrade and the JCW Stage 1 done and there was no mention of either mod. I was lucky enought to live close to KP so Kevin did the actual installs for me. They did not seem to difficult to complete. I highly recommend them both. They are very professionally made and high quality. I feel the price is more than reasonaable too. If anything they are undr priced and they could legitimately sell them for another 10 or 20 dollars
