R56 GPS PAL= excellent product
GPS PAL= excellent product
I just recieved my order of a GPS-Pal from Driving Comfort and it is great. It holds your GPS and the it goes into the cup-holder on my JCW. It is a very clean set up and no wires hanging out or nothing on the dash or window at all. It is easy to see and has two ways to set it up according to what GPS you have. The best $17.95 I spent in a long time.

Fifth gear is close but you can swivel the screen if need to. I won't be driving hard with it in my car anyway.

How do you use it with it down so low and out of reach like that?
I like mine up in the line of sight somewhere and easier to reach..........
On my '03 it fit perfectly in the left lower corner of the windshield, but on my '09 that doesn't work so well as the windshield's further away, so I've been using one of those 'bean bag" holders.

Works perfect in my 2009 JCW
The company is called Driving Comfort and the address is:
www.drivingcomfort.com
Their catalog # is: 26652
It is called GPS pal
I also was using the Garmin BeanBag which is great except for the fact that every time you got out of the car the GPS was up on the dash yelling "STEAL ME" to whoever walked by. This sticks it in a very good place that is very easy to reach and easy to view. I don't change settings while driving anyway. I do use it to find food or lodging which only takes a touch. If you can shift gears you can reach and view the GPS from this location.
Also, I have heard storys about people getting a ticket for having their GPS stuck to the windshield.
The beanBag is also good but like I said, You have to move the GPS every time you stop for even a minuite.

Velcro is your friend!
I use my navigation often, and I use my cupholder often. I chose to put some velcro behind the shifter, and put some velcro in the back of the nav unit. Both were placed in strategic places so there is always contact to both sides of the velcro and it will hold it in place. I set it up for two positions, one when I am not using the cable to charge, than the unit lies flat with a slight tilt, and the other way when it's being charged, it's tilted a little more upright to make room for the cable, that when connected is angled out to the side of the nav. Best of all, it all can be removed and reapplied whenever however you want, and leaves no permanent scars!
Velcro on the car:

Velcro behind the nav unit...I do also have a piece of velcro behind the charging base so it catches the velcro on the console closest to the shifter (but didn't take a pic of it to show, forgot to..)

No cable, slight angle:

When plugged in, a bit more angled:

Low profile, out of the way, and gets the job done. You do have to look down a little more to see what's on the screen, but that's what the voice commands are for-to tell you where you need to turn..

Great idea! Until today, I've had my TomTom suction cupped to the speedometer (to the right, covering the fuel indicator) or, I used the adhesive disc that came with it to put it in front/over the left cupholder. Today, I moved my Valentine remote display down there so I have to move the GPS. Using this method will keep it in a much more discreet location and keep those telltale suction cup marks off the windows for thieves! Thanks for the idea!

El Cheapo GPS Holder
I have a bottom level Tom Tom Unit. My cheap cure is to attatch the suction cup to a (black) spray paint lid & then put the GPS unit in 1 of the console cup holders. Looks good & leaves no marks!
That was the purpose of the pic taken with that screen open, to see who would notice...
BUT - to justify it, that speed was achieved in a controlled environment, but not with the MINI, I was driving my GTI (at the time).

I've just mounted a ScanGaugeII with their system, and I like it.
Move it up to eye level.

My GPS talks to me.
I have the Garmin 260W that a nice lady tells me the name of the next street and where to turn. I just glance down every now & then to see what is coming up next but I really don't have to. The screen in this placement is easy to view and reach. I really like this product and It fits perfect with my dog booster seat. I alway pull over if I need to look up food/gas/motel Etc. Trying to use this while driving is pretty stupid. It would be like texting and driving.
I never really liked it on my dash because it does cause a small but very blind spot.

You can plainly see the GPS and it is very easy to see and reach. No wires at all in the way and if your GPS talks you will hardly ever have to look at it anyway.

GPS location
After seeing the post above with the little velcro tabs, I had to try it. My GPS is usually mounted down low because she tells me what street to turn onto so I don't have to look at it. I used double sided tape (for now) to secure it and my first trip to/from work on some of the worst roads in Northern VA couldn't knock it loose!
If I'm in a bad part of town, I'll just toss a skull cap over it and I doubt anyone will be able to see it as the windows are also tinted.
Thanks for the idea!

Looks good. I'd go with this or the rather expensive cravenspeed unit. I have the gominigo mount and it sucks with a widescreen gps. Too cramped on the right side of the steering wheel and the steering wheel cuts off half the screen to boot.
I really like the Cravenspeed unit but it was too rich for my blood. I have a cheap vent mount unit that I picked up on ebay for under $10 shipped. It mounts in nearly the same location as the Cravenspeed unit but isn't quite as stable. It has never come out of the vent but large bumps can leave it crooked requiring a quick reset of the stabilizer clip.
