Buying new mini cooper S. Need help with choosing

I want to buy the 2009 cooper S with automatic transmission ( a must cause mini dacshie sits on my lap), with mellow yellow, black roof and black bonnet stripes. I can't decide whether I should have the premium package or the sports package. What would you recommend? Is the manual AC good or is it best to get the automatic A/C?

If there arent any mellow yellow in cooper S and they have it in the base model, would the base model with 117 HP be good enough for the freeway?

There aren't alot of mellow yellow left on the lot so I am wondering if I should just buy the new 2010 cooper S instead. What are the differences?

Also, I live in southern california and I am wondering if anyone has been able to buy it for less than MSRP. If so, which dealer and how much less?

Not going to be any differences in the 2010, but if I were you and I didn't need a car right away, I'd wait a few extra months and get a 2010.

My base Cooper has been driven on the highway at least half it's life, and it's been great. Easy to keep up and pass people. Cruise control is nice for the long drives if you get the multifunction steering wheel. I'd go with auto A/C.

The base cooper with auto is a very fun car to drive...no worries at all on the highway capabilities.

Mellow Yellow is being discontinued so if you really want it, an 09 is your only choice.

Keep in mind that the 09's have DSC button that is standard and the sport option gives you more of the same. I would go Premium package for sure. yellow is a fun color. I have always said I wish I could go out to the garage and change my color everyday because it's hard to choose a color. Auto is the only way to go with a puppy on your lap. Thank goodness it's not a long haired dog...you will never get the hair out! --Tell me it has Xenon!!!! Personally I would buy it if it doesn't have it. There will be that dark road one night that you will kick yourself for not having that option, and you cannot add it later.!---Stacy

Test drive the base model - I think you will find that is pretty darn good on the freeway. Last chance to get Mellow Yellow.

re discounts, general rule:

Lot stock = good chances for decent discounts of a thou or more. The higher the msrp, the steeper a potential discount
Ordered car = not so good because the dealer does not have to discount to move the car (unless the buyer backs out).

Some posters claim they get massive discounts ($1,000 +) off msrp on ordered cars, but I dont believe them. NAM is rife with braggarts and tall tales, esp. when buyers try to one-up each other over discounts, real or perceived.

The only bummer about the auto is that the paddles were dropped in the base Cooper earlier this year. But y'll still be impressed by how quick and smooth the Aisin automatic shifts. Outstanding tranny!

Oh and +1 on the xenons, one of the only options that's dropped in price over the last few years. Dont become a victim of "halogen remorse." Good luck

thanks for the suggestions

It is tough to find a mellow yellow on any lot right now. I live in Southern CA.

I really want the mellow yellow with the black roof but you think white roof would look good?

Hi, I did manage to get $1000 off MSRP on an order for a 2010. I asked two local dealers if they could give me what I want -- one of the first orders on a 2010, $500 off MSRP, and free installation of dealer installed accessories. MINI San Francisco and MINI Mountain View both said ok, so I was going to use Mtn View since they're closer to my house. SF came back with an offer for $1000 off MSRP so I took it. It can happen!!

got my mini cooper S today but have questions..

There was only 2 mini cooper S in mellow yellow in the 5 dealers around where I live so I bought one which didn't have exactly what I wanted for options.

Anyways, i have a mellow yellow with white roof and white bonnet stripes. Options are aero kit, universal garage something rather, bluetooth and something to do with steering wheels to control the options.

My main concern is that has 4 run flat tires. I never heard of it and I am used to the traditional tires.

Are run flat tires good?

Also, what do you think of white roof and white bonnet stripes. I was looking for a black roof and premium package but they didn't have any. forgot to add that I was able to knock $500 of mrsp and they threw in wheel locks and mats.

Silvia, You have to like what it looks like before you buy it. And you have to like the aero kit.

I myself like the MY with the black roof. And I do like the aero kit.

Don't worry about run flats. You cannot change it at the dealership but you can change it afterwards at your own expense.

Motor on and mod it later -- Minis are fun cars and putting your personal mods make her yours.

I've seen MY w/white roof & stripes and I was surprised by how much I liked it. It's all personal taste, so you really should decide if YOU like it or not. You'll be the one driving the car, no one else.

Good luck!
