This forum has been really helpful in researching different options and interior schemes. I had originally wanted pure silver but just got notified that it isn't available for 2010 anymore :(

How does the ordering process work? Is it basically like the website (you fill out a form and check the boxes you want)? I've never special ordered a car before. How much do you have to pay when you order? Is it refundable if you cancel your order? Any tips or advice for going through the process? Also, did you find prices to be negotiable at all when ordering?
Interesting... pure silver is no longer available on the S for 2010 in Canada. Obviously that's not the case in the US if you were able to order one. I wonder why they felt we shouldn't be able to buy a silver MCS anymore.

You can go to the Mini site (miniusa.com, if you're in the U.S.), and design your Mini there. You can specify model, color, stripes/no stripes, performance upgrades, wheels, packages, etc. and the site will give you an estimated cost. Then you can send this build to a Mini dealership of your choice, and someone from that dealership will get in touch with you about your order. I had to put down $1,000, which wasn't refundable, but went towards the down payment on my Mini. I had an awesome MA (motoring advisor), so the process went very smoothly!!

You're going to love it!!! I just picked up my Mini Cooper S in June, and it's been one of the best purchases I've ever made! I'm so happy with Murphy!!
Thanks. The problem is that the website still appears to only have the build for 2009 cars. Maybe the dealers have the build info for 2010 cars, and hopefully that will be on the MINI website soon. I've read about a few changes here, including in colors (no yellow in 2010) and options (no more LSD, but there is a different electronic traction control that is supposed to be better than LSD).
The "motoring manager" told me that they had just received the 2010 ordering guide.
I put $1000 down, which is refundable in California. Basically it gives you the right of first refusal when the car arrives. MINIs in SoCal are in pretty high demand so I didn't get any break on the price.

you know you can track your car's process right? If you didn't know, then you may need to call your dealer and get your production number and follow the MINI site and find out how your car is doing. You will get it by the mid Oct date I bet. It will be a long wait but a great day when it arrives! Enjoy the moment! And tell your dealer to NOT detail your car. They can easily scratch it! Look up Zaino and go from there! Mr. Zaino will steer you in the right direction for your car's paint lifetime! ---Stacy
The hard part is colors and options, so many to choose from. Good luck with your order.
The 2010 MCS went up $400.00 MSRP/including shipping. The mini website will be updated soon to reflect the 2010's if it isn't already. I got $200.00 off and free floor mats but had to pay $200.00 in dealer doc fees so it was a wash.

Finance, but I used my home equity so I can write off the interest. Plus it was a better rate than Mini was offering for the 2010's. I am expecting to get the car in early Oct. Ships docks Oct 1st.
what rate is Mini offering on 2010 models?
I believe it was 5.9% for 2010's and 1.9% for left over 2009's. I didn't pay too much attention because I knew I was using my line of credit.
