***Urgent Throttle body ALTA pipe check***

TAKE YOUR ALTA PIPE OFF AND CHECK FOR PENETRATIONS!!!!!!

heres the story. i ordered a BOV from ALTA. When it came, it was easier for me to remove the cold side or trottle body side silicone pipe to install alta bov. When i removed it, i noticed something strange, while engine is heavily rocking, the pipe was scraping on the side of the firewall, and while doing that, the firewall bit into the silicon pipe. here are some photos. inspect your pipe and shave/file down the sharp plastic cast on the firewall.

Another great reason to keep the stock tubes...

Or go to hard pipe if you insist on changing them.

pipes are fine, its not their fault, its the sharp end on the mini firewall thats biting into the piping, all you have to do it file it down a bit

MiniPOLACK,

In your photographs, can you please put an arrow at the point where it is sharp and cutting the tube.

Thanks,

same thing is happening to mine. We've only noticed it because we had reasons to remove the pipe again. Most people would have no idea it is happening unless it punches through completely and causes a boost leak.

Glad I bought the hard pipe. This is why R&D is soooo critical but accidents can happen.

Just took a look at a few R55/R56's here. MAN the JCW R55 has like razor blade sharpness on that spot! A few things to check....
Make sure the top part of the hose is pushed ALL the way forward.
Don't tighten the bottom clamp down before the top.
*If you push the hose on the top and then tighten down the bottom and its a tad close...you can trim up the top mount a bit. We are "right now" adjusting our instructions to reflect the tight tolerance on the firewall. Heck our R56 doesnt have our boost tubes and the OE clamp has made multiple scratches on the firewall.

I'm new here but it makes no sense to me to use silicon in a very tight engine bay full of sharp edges and engine movement. How long is the warranty for these silicone tubes? Does it cover damage due to a stock engine bay? Or do you have to file down all the sharp edges and reinforce the engine mounts for this aftermarket part to prove you followed directions? If the tube suddenly loses boost, won't the boost be cut immediately? I think I will look into metal tubing if I replace this stock part, which I just looked at and does in fact rub against the firewall. Now that the company knows this can be a problem, maybe they should redesign the material rather than only change the directions. Thanks for posting the warning as it helps people avoid problems.

tried talking and sending countless emails about one simple question about Exhaust Depot's boost tubes... never one reply... and i've sent the email 8 times now... rather disappointed in that one :/ not to mention it's very simple, i just wanted to know if he would be willing to sell just cold side boost tube with HKS bov... never knew that was a very intense question :/

That's weird...I just saw this just about to say I wish I could order the cold side boost tube with the hks weld on.....I e-mailed them today at 4...I'll give them sometime but if you've sent numerous e-mails with no reply I'm doubting my luck...O well their loss.

I will never understand why companies still don't respond to customers.

dont worry about emailing them...calling is the best way, if they are there they will pick up, let it ring because they may be in the middle of a bend. again calling is the best way to get a hold of them.

my brother and possibly i will be there tomorrow to pick up parts, if i go i will let them know they have emails from mini people
