Relocating to Bend

Hello All,
I am moving to Bend from Seattle at the end of the week for work. My question is whether the MINI is reasonable daily transportation in Bend. The care is lowered on H&R coilover kit and It also has a painted aero kit.

How much does it snow in Bend? Can I throw some snow tires/all seasons on and be okay?

Thanks for the help guys.

Bryan

Look up ScottinBend here on NAM. He lives there and is he's a friend of mine. He can give you firsthand advise. Having been to Bend a lot in the winter, they do a good job of plowing and sanding the roads there. You will get rock chips and the car should be fine with snow tires in the winter.

Welcome Bryan,

Bend does a good job of prepping the roads during the winter. Only problem is that Bend and the county have started using the mag/chloride on the roads to help with icing. This can cause a problem if it is not removed from the car in a timely manner. I usually try to wash and rinse the underside of my car monthly to keep this crap from accumulating.

The snowfall has been fairly moderate the last 10 years or so. We can get a good dump for a few days, but they keep up with the plowing real well around here. In fact there hasn't been but just a couple of snow days locally for the last few years. Just remember that the city will plow the roads, but the berm at the end of your driveway is your responsibility. Which sucks.........LOL

I have a dedicated set of steel wheels with snow tires on it that I mount at the first snow and keep on till spring.

And as a heads up....ScottinBend was banned from this site last year. An unfortunate misunderstanding between him and the previous owner of NAM. But you can find him on www.motoringalliance.com ( a much nicer site than this one.....) Give him a holler as he has lots of experience with Central OR and with MINI's.

I do have a clear bra on it but I have decided to sell the MINI. I didn't want to put it through the harsh winters. It is currently for sale. Check the marketplace.

I just felt bad about subjecting it to salt and ice. Check it out at:
