Falken Aziens Sport Tires
These tires are supposed to have super dry traction, but according to the factory web sight they say to reduce speed in wet conditions. Does anybody have experience with these tires in the rain ? Can they handle the mild winters here in Ca. ?
OY!! I had these on my '94 RX7. I was persuaded to buy these instead of the Pirelli's i wanted, that was my first mistake. I was actually pretty happy with them, until my first drive in the rain. I totally spun out on dead-man's curve (Peachtree exit from I-75 in ATL) and from that point on was terrified to drive that car in the rain. I ended up taking them back and getting the Pirelli's i wanted. I just don't think they are good tires for a sports car or for someone that drives like they have a sportscar.
I've been very happy with them (been using them all summer in often-soggy Pennsylvania). In the rain, you definitely need to adjust your driving style, but it's not like driving on snow in summer tires. In the rain, I get about the same amount of wheelspin in 2nd gear than I do in dry weather in first gear.
FWIW, Azenis Sport is the same as Azenis RS, it's what people refer to when they say Azenis:

Falken Azenis are the Shiznit-o-bamsnipsnapsap. Want a testament to their prowess? See this page:

In classes where you need to run DOT-legal, non R-Compound tires, Falken Azenis clean house.

Its allways made me wounder "what if... other DOT street tires came moulded at 6/32nds" Natually less tread depth wouyld help assist in hydroplaning, but its lack of tread block flex would yield a great dry weather advantage. So what if we shaved an S-03.....

Alex,
Which tire are you refering to with only 6/32 tread? The Falkens have way more than that. Some of the fast guys were shaving the Falken and the Kumho MX. It would be interested to see what a shaved S-03 would do. Want to donate a set?

I think dollar for dollar Azenis are definitly among the top fun to drive tires available.
I have had a set on my Miata for about 4000 miles, and I have no complaints about wet tractions.
They are rumored not to like standing water but so do alot of tires on the marketI do not haul butt in the rain in my Miata.
Azenis are as close as you can get to Race tires and still have DOT ratings; notwithstanding, the ellusive and sought after Yokohama Neovas.
SO3 Bridgestone are are also great tires as they will do just about everything you ask them to with out question
We do not sell them but we do have many local customers ship them in for Mounting and Balancing from Tire Rack.
Mostly Miata customers.
I will tell you this we have had no unhappy customers in almost 2 years of selling Azenis.
So Many Cool Tires and So Little Time

Unless you consider , STS where Kumho MX's took 5 of the top 7 trophies, including number 1. You get a lot more sizes in the Kumho's too.

With 100 competitors between STS and STX, only one listed as Bridgestone, and only 5 listed as using BFGs. All the rest were Falken or Kumho. It's gotta be the costs and that the extra performance offered by the KDs and S-03s (and they are better) isn't justifiable for their limited use. Personally, I'm saving my pennies for the S-03s.

I'm looking for a set of street / track tires to run in stock class with 16x6.5" rims. The Kumho's come in two sizes, 205/55-16 and 225/50-16. Falkens 205/55-16 and 215/45-16. I'm leaning toward the 215/45. This being my first year I don't believe it necessary to get Hoosiers to go play at the track.

Not sure which Kumhos my friend had on his E36 but he said they much louder then his S03 and he replaced them with pzero neros. He said those were much quieter. Not sure if that matters to you or not.
