Uh Oh!

Just mailed off my first payment on my Cooper S with 1400 miles on it. Left for work this morning, got about three miles from home and engine started sputtering like I was out of gas though I had over half a tank . As I was adjusting my worried eyes look a chime sounded and a picture of an engine lit up on the dash

I turned about and limped home with engine barely running and as I was now late for work I swapped out vehicles with the wife and dashed off. Did not have time to look at manual but hope it is nothing too crazy. Gonna call the dealer at lunch.

I've seen some posts like this were the fuel pump is to blame. Either it is hooked up wrong so the high presure feed it not right or that the whole pump is bad.

Still awaiting my MCS...about 3-4 weeks to go.

vandelay - Are you an architect? It seems like A LOT of people ordered MINI's right around the same time.

EMAR - Keep US posted.

Well I mainly deal in the import export trade! =)

1.9% for 36 months is a pretty good reason to order one. I was told 4-5 weeks until I pick it up.

Well worst part is we were planning to take it to the beach Friday

I am guessing it will need to be towed but we will see.

Well wife just called me and said when tow truck driver was trying to drive up on rolloff the car was emmiting copius amounts of dark smoke and would not stay running He had to winch it aboard (at least we found out what the little square hatch in the front bumper is for, the tow hook). This sucks

I hope this isn't another "bad gas" fuel pump issue. If so, we might be facing another "cold start...normal sound" initial response from Mini on these fuel pumps.

93 octane and various brands. "Molly" is back in the driveway. High pressure fuel pump could not handle the pressure Cracked and spraying fuel. Stellar service at towson mini. Towed and replaced with chill red cooper lent to the wife. Fixed in one day and running fine

HEY - you stole my username/plates!

Ah, I had the same problem after just over two years with mine - I have an '07 MCS build, too. But mine showed itself when I tried to start it...It kept choking and dying. Up to NINE times one morning!

Glad to hear you've gotten it fixed!

Cool plates . Sounds like this is somewhat of a common problem. Have any of you who had the pump replaced had problems later? Don't want to go through that again. Kind of Mini's version of xbox's red ring of death?

Same thing happened to me. Bought my '09 JCW and drove to FL from NC. Didn't make it back out of FL and the fuel pump died.

At least it made it home even in limp mode.

Good to hear you got things fixed with your dealer. No one wants to start their motoring experience like this. I'm sending better luck your way!

sounds like this fuel pump issue is w/ 2009's? Anyone w/ a 2008 have this issue?

My 2008 MCS didn't have the turbo oil inlet/sender tube connected properly when I bought it. I got it about 3 miles out of the dealership when I noticed a lot of smoke and burnt oil smell. Opened the hood, oil everywhere. I drove it back said fix it. They were pretty embarrassed ...had to come back 3 days later to get my Mini. Simple fix, yet a couple new parts had to be ordered. 1 yr later Mini is running great. Now here is my beef, didn't we all pay a hefty service fee (I think it was around $400) for the dealer to "test" our cars before delivery? I forget what they call the fee ..yet I vaguely remember paying this ridiculous fee for nothing! I should have got a refund :(

Stop worrying so much. You are still far from the warranty being over, and I would be very surprised if you had another issue pop up.
