R56 1st Service, What's Included, What's Free?
1st Service, What's Included, What's Free?
I am bringing my Mini in for it's 1 year service. My mini only has 3,600 miles on it yet it's over a year old so thought it would be good to take advantage of one of the FREE services we get in the first 3 years. Actually, I was under the impression that we all got free services for the first 3 years? Now I can not find where it states that anywhere and when I made my appointment online it states that there is no free service unless your check engine/service light comes on in the first 3 years. At the rate I am going i'll never get the free service.
Can someone please explain what is covered for FREE on a 1 1/2 year old car that has 3,600 miles and no check engine light? If they are going to charge me $150 or whatever for an oil change I'll do it myself for $40.
Thanks,
(feeling annoyed and betrayed by what Mini told me when I bought the car)

A lot. Enough said! J/k you get free oil change. They might top off other fluids. Might even change a few if they need be. Rotate and maybe balance. Mmm there is really not much else you could do for a service. Its really not any different from any other car when it comes to service.
The dealer I'm going to on the 22nd for my first service (Keeler, Albany NY) said I'm going to get oil changed, fluids, and new air filters.
It's been a year and I have 13,500 miles on my car. The guy I talked to on the phone at the dealer said you basically come in 3 times in 3 years. Either one year from the month you purchased it, or when the OBC goes below 1,000 miles.

Here is what my Dealer did on Molly's 1st Anniversary Service Appointment, 15,636 Miles. Standard Scope, Oil Change, Micro Filter. I had them install the British Flag Side Scuttles, fix some rattles, replace Wiper Blades, performed reinitialization for the Window Dipper problem.
Hell when my car gets to Florida its getting new wipers. Those bad boys get changed every 6 months

That would be for when the counter counts down. The 1 year low mileage service is just an oil change.

Actually your MINI is going to tell the SA what he/she needs. My service dept puts my key fob in a reader and it pulls all the data from the car which gets pulled everytime you use the fob physically to start car (not convenient access).
Example-took mine in, SA plugged it in and Augie told him he needed some brake fluid. How cool is that!

My understanding is that at your one-year anniversary (assuming low mileage), all you get is a free oil and filter change. Period.
You get a lot of other goodies (see the scheduled maintenance and inspection list COR BLMY posted) when your OBC says it is time for a scheduled maintenance. That is what is advertised when you buy the car. The one-year thing is not advertised, it is just done on low-mileage cars.
By the way, is COR BLMY short for "blimey" or "balmy"?

I always read it as "Cor Blimey" as in "He wears cor-blimey trousers And he lives in a council flat"
Actually, Its not FREE. You paid for it in advance , its built into the the price of the car.
One Year Checkup was Free
I took my '08 MCS in for the free oil change on the 1 year anniversary of delivery (with 10K miles - 8K left according to OBD). Mini of Annapolis did the oil change, did a complete inspection (gave me a results of things they checked like; brake pad thickness, tire tread wear, fluids added, brake rotor condition) and re-initialized the windows (passanger window did not auto-up - they fixed it). All for free!
They commented that they liked the sound of my Alta cat-back exhaust and DDM Race Intake and liked my sunroof flag. They didn't mention the EBC Red brake pads or notice the Royal Purple oil that I use (changed oil twice on my own).

Let's make things a little easier to understand. Up to 3/36,000 miles all scheduled maintenance is free. Mid-year Oil Changes, Wiper Blade changes, etc. are on your dime. Warning Lights, Rattles, Window issues (only things I've experienced) are also repaired at no charge.
There I think that sums it up. If in doubt your Dealer is only a phone call away.

they also replace brake pads for free too, right? i just bought my 07 MCS and just after driving it a couple of hundred miles my "front brake" service msg is on. i am taking it in on saturday to have it taken care of (also, my "vehicle check" msg is lit).
Yes .. Cockney slang - Cor (or gor) = holy or God
Blimey actually comes from "Blind Me"
Commont usage is Holy *****
I have found that being nice / pleasant and honest usually does pay off (especially when dealing with SAs who usually deal with grumpy, unhappy and someone trying to pull the woll over their eyes)
There are discresionary things that can be done.
I was in the Auto Parts retail biz for 13 years .
And have found that this works with phone companies, co-workers and even spouses
All this talk about only oil and filter at the 1yr first service... my 09 MCS was delivered in early March, and I'm already pushing 13,500 miles! I expect to hit my OBD-suggested service at near the 6 month mark!
The car's a lot of fun, but I'm a bit uneasy about how fast I'm burning through my service/warranty period.

Did you get the extension? 6years/100,000 miles, it may be worth it for you.
