Interior/Exterior changing the roof color.
hey, Malcon... I think you meant it should NOT be hard to do.
Yeah, just take the existing vinyl off and have a solid black vinyl graphic installed. Much cheaper than having it painted and it's easily reversible. And it's easy enough to swap out mirror caps.

vinyl ftw.
make sure you get high quality.
i would recommend Avery A9 (a7 means 9year outdoor life) vinyl.
in my experience (as a designer/installer of vinyl wraps) avery will give you the best results in the long run. the 3m is nice, but avery has more life in it.

is the supplier i have always used.
the one problem with DIY is: in order NOT to have seams, you'll want to order a roll that is 48" wide. they only come in 48" by 50 yard sizes in that width. unless you could get a deal on 48" by custom length, you're looking at quite an expense ($541 for matte black 48"x50yd).
the good news is, you'll have enough to do your roof, your friends roof, your entire car, any interior piece you can get your paws on, etc. etc.
doing your whole car isn't easy (especially in matte black) but doing it for cost of materials ($550) is a hell of a lot cheaper than having a shop do it.
your roof on the other hand would be CAKE to wrap with vinyl.

I need to order some vinyl soon to change some panel colors, jbell's suggestion of beacon graphics seems good as they now offer 48"x10 yard rolls. Does anyone else have other recommendations?
My real question is that I would like to match chili red paint, and there are several bright reds available...any idea how I can tell which to buy?

See if they will send you a couple of small sample pieces of the vinyl. Once you get them lay it on the roof and stand back for a look. Since it is as far away from you OEM red paint it doesn't have to be exact as long as it is real close. Check with R.vinyl.com, SignWarehouse.com, Signsplusbanners.com, even Ebay ( only once you know what color number you want), to name a few..
