Factory JCW muffler install on a Cooper S JCW Stage 1

Hi guys.

Just thought I would stick up a quick thread showing the new exhaust combo I have just put onto my MINI.

I managed to get hold of the 1st R56 Challenge exhaust in the UK, but I only had it on the car for 10 minuites before taking it off because it was far too loud for my liking, and it sounded like a tractor at low revs.

So, I went back to the drawing board and decided to go for the back box (or muffler as you guys call it) from the Factory JCW.

So, here are some vids so you get the idea.

The car was nice and warm when the videos were taken, but when its cold in the mornings I get some seriously loud pops at low revs.

It literally sounds like a gun going off when you shift from 1st to 2nd at approx 4k rpm with a real loud BANG. However after about 5 miles or so it calms down, but its still pretty fruity.

Overall the back box is MUCH louder on my Stage 1 than it is when fitted to the Factory JCW - I don't know the reasons why, but I absolutely love it!!

Did you get a video with the challenge exhaust?

I'm afraid not. :(

I got a whole 10 minutes down the road from the exhaust place before I turned back to have it taken off!

Are you missing the resonator or either of the cats now?

Nope - I have the standard downpipe installed which contains a 400 cpi cat and a 200 cpi pre-cat.

I still have the stock mid silencer too.

I know where your coming from though, because for just a rear muffler its pretty loud isnt it!!!! :D

yea, I don't see why it would be louder than a regular stage 2 JCW if you still have all the other bits. Do you still have any of the challenge exhaust on?

Nope I am running a bone stock system (downpipe with both cats, centre pipe with mid resonator box until the back box which is still a genuine MINI item, but instead of the Stage 1 box I am now running the Factory JCW back box.

People on the UK forums have suggested that it may be louder than the Factory JCW due to the engine having different compression ratios to the stock Cooper S.

I put the 2009 JCW exhaust on my 2007 JCW. I am now missing one cat and have a very long resonator. Sounds much better than the stage 1 JCW exhaust.
