? concerning resetting "Oil Service Interval"

There is a good chance that I am not very smart, but I seem to be having a hard time performing the "Oil Service Interval Reset". I found somewhere on here the steps required to accomplish this task that actually contained three sections. If the fist procedure did not work try the second and if that does not work, then try the third. Well I have tried all three steps multiple times and no go. I have a 06 R53 with the JCW package on it. Are any of you aware if this year or model requires something different or am I just missing something.

Thanks,
Lon

Maybe it really is not important?

Unless the negative numbers at start up annoy you, there is no reason to reset the interval. You should be keeping paper maintenance records anyway.

heres how i do it....it just helps me keep track of when to change the oil. no sticker in my windshield, and dont have to pull out the paperwork.

!)Push-hold Trip Button (TB)
2)Turn key to position 1
3)Continue to hold (TB), the number 15A will show to the left of the mileage
4)Release (TB) for 3 sec and then hold (TB) again
5)In about 5-8 sec RST will show in the left corner
6)Release and then hold again, 15000 will show, press and release

MUShadd, thanks for your reply, but I have attempted those steps also with no luck which leads me to wonder if the 06 is any different than prior years models. Or I just continue to do something wrong which I will admit is possible.

"06 is not different - works on mine. Make sure it's ignition on but not running.

Well I am at a loss. I followed the steps posted here exactly. I turn the key to position 1 while holding the trip button. When I see the "15A" I release for ~3sec. and then push in again and hold for ~ 5-8 sec. While "15A" is displayed I see the word "inspection" in the lower left corner of the display. After holding the button for ~5-8 sec and releasing same button I see the word "END", and the with the next press of the button the display goes back to normal.
Unless I am missing something, I am at a total loss. Not a big deal, but at this point I would like to know why this is not working!

I'm sure you've probably read my take on the instructions already but i'll link it for reference anyways. Those instructions worked for me.

I used these steps on my 2003 Cooper:

1. push trip button and hold it down
2. turn ignition key to position 1 and "15A" will appear to left of mileage
3. release trip button and wait 3 seconds
4. push trip button and wait (5 - 8 seconds) for "RST" to appear in left corner
5. release trip button
6. push trip button
7. "15000" [or kilometer equivalent] will appear as new service interval
8. release trip button
9. The miles [or kilometers] until next service will now count down from the reset interval.

While I appreciate all of your responses and help, I have determined that I must be an idiot.
I have tried them all and while I feel I am doing then correct, I simply am having no luck.
I can easily get to the point where I see the 15A on the display. I then release the trip button and wait ~3 seconds. I have tried this both just counting and using a watch. Next I pressed the button and held for ~5-8 seconds. After this when I release the button the display reads "END" on the right side of the display and it kicks me out of the test.
Seems to me that I am doing it right, but I come up with the same response every time.
Either I am missing a step or it is just not working on my car, which I find hard to believe since you are doing it with no trouble.

Thanks again for your help,

Lon
