Mini to be locked if in garage

Does a Mini need to be locked with the remote control when in your own garage ? Looks like a stupid question but after having a VW Eos , I do not want the navi, phone and other stuff drain the battery as happened with the EOS. The VW dealer found this normal to lock always your car in your own garage !

I have never locked mine while in the garage in the eight weeks I have had it. As a matter of fact I always have the top down in the garage. No problems.

If I leave the top down, I never lock it becuase that "almost useless" motion sensor in the driver and passenger footwells may go off if something accidently falls in that area. I don't want to be woken up in the night with my car alarm going off.

If I do put the top up, I always lock it for one specific reason: The Comfort Access System.

The system uses the settings when the car was last unlocked if you don't dock the fob into the slot. Since I ordered the Comfort Access System, neither my wife nor I actually use the fobs, so we have to make sure we unlock the Mini when we plan to drive so our settings are loaded (ie, settings like the 3-second turn signals, radio presets, previous autoAC temperatures, etc). I can't tell you how many times I got into the car, and went to use the signal, and it was set for 1 seconds (my wife's setting), rather than the easy to use 3-second. Then there's also the speed sensitivity settings (I like mine high, hers at the factory settings).

It's a shame that when the Mini is turned on, it can detect which FOB is in the drivers set and use those settings. Rather it uses the FOB settings that was in close proximity to the door that was unlocked.

I also wished that the Mini would somehow give you an indication as to which FOB settings are in use. Like maybe a "1" or "2" in the upper right or left of the GPS screen.

Hey Stefspain,

This is a bit offtopic, but your drivers and passenger side visors, do they have any stickers or writing on them like they do in the US? Ours has the famous warning that you see on each and every vehicle, and it's part of the actual visor and not a sticker I can remove.

I've been considering ordering the Euro version for left hand drive vehicle, and replacing mine, but I want to confirm if the Euro version is without those bring yellow warning things.

stickers

No in Europe we are less lawsuit like and as such manufacturers in general are not "chased" in putting warnings all over the place on a car for ex. But to order a Euro version for that , is a little bit over the top. I think suspension , lights, seatbelts , windows are all different.

Those yellow warning labels are more like stencils and come off quite nicely with rubbing alcohol and a soft rag. Just takes a little rubbing and they dissolve right off. Someone posted a comment elsewhere on this subject quite some time ago.

Back to topic: I always lock up even in the garage, matter of habit. I even set the handbrake.

The second Gen cars have a sleep (for lack of a better term) function that turns off most of the cars electronics after approximately 15 minutes Unlike the VW that stayed on all the time if the car was not locked.

Thanks for the message on the sleep function . So the car beside the handling ( the more roundabouts the more fun, the more curbs... ) I got also a clever car !!!!
What the US warning stickers concern, the Euro version warns above the buttons for opening top that you should keep hands away while operating the top But I do not really see the reason ordering a Euro version in the US just for easy to remove stickers. I want the US side markers which would cost me more than 500 USD !!!

It looks like we all want what we cannot have!

As in most cases the is a cost for going against the grain!

To each their own!

I say do it if it feels good/right!
