Wait for 2010 MCS?

I'm [this] close to buying a new 2009 MCS, but now I'm wondering if it might be a better idea to wait for the 2010 models. Any word on when they might be released or if there will be any changes to the look (or new colors)? What month were the 2009s released?

Thanks

I hear you buddy and share your anxiety!

I too am [this] close to getting a MINI BUT I am caught in the pitfall of Color Selection!

I'm not really in love with any of the blues that are offered and I really want a blue MINI. So it boils down to the following...

1) Move on and chose some other color (2nd choice is CR/W).

2) Roll the bones and wait for 2010 to see if BMW/MINI offer another shade of blue that I like.

Decisions... Decisions!

My MA mention that probably MINI will change the packages and the car will be same. Also, He didn't mention anything about new colors...

I'm also this close to buying a MCS, but I'm torn on buying a 2009. I probably have to do an order to get the config I want, which means I have to wait 8-10 weeks for delivery anyway. At that point I'm probably less than 2 months from the new model year, so why pay so much for a car that's basically already depreciated a year? I am less concerned about color, although I definitely see myself in a little Chili Red hardtop. I hear the 2010s are supposed to have just a smidge more power too...

MF: How about the mid-cycle refresh on the R56, what kind of changes can we expect there? Anything regarding the interior? Taking comments from our new and existing customers, the interior design team has noted specific items that can be improved upon.

Vinnie: While I cannot say exactly what will change, let’s just say that the moment your right hand wants to reach for something, it will be rewarded with more tactile and direct control.

If I were in this position, I would wait and see.

Well, if I want to turn around and sell it in a few years, the 2010 (even with the same specs and mileage) will be worth more.

you should get a Fit or even a Corolla or something with a high resale value.

I'm with ZachM on resale value. Why should I get a 2009 now when in just a couple more months I can get a 2010? I don't know if I want to take the hit on an extra year of depreciation when it's close to the end of the model year. Does anyone know when you can put in an order for a 2010? I've tried asking the sales manager, but she gave me a vague response (October or November).

dude, kinda harsh. you'll never know until you drive one. no crystal ball for satisfaction especially in this economic climate. anyway, i'm seriously thinking of selling my '07 cooper for a JCW.

that's exactly what i did last year.

in addition, i couldn't put in my order for a 2009 until october, and bcs of the change re sport pkg at the factory (DTS), production didn't start until two months later on 11/30/08, which led to my having to wait til january to accept delivery of my car. another thing that made me really glad i waited was the body colored aero kit that had not been available before unless i did it after the fact.

i haven't had a chance to look up the diffs b/w 09 & 10, but you might want to take whatever changes there are and how they might affect factory production timing into consideration if you need your car sooner rather than later.

i thought i saw elsewhere on NAM that some dealerships offered a discount on the 08s when the 09s came out (in other words, allowed you to pay slightly less than MSRP). i'm in no position to know if they'd do the same when the 2010s come out.

Actually, MINI has one of the best resale values out there...

I'm sorry I don't fit "your MINI profile", but have you concerned the possbility that maybe I'll be trading in the MINI to get...ANOTHER MINI???

Sheesh, some people.

yah, why are you asking if your mind is already set then??!

i thought you wanted someone like me to push you over so you get a 2009?
wasn't that the point of your entire post? some of you newbs around here
are pretty werd. ofcourse a 2010 is going to have higher resale value, but
dont you want to have fun with your car NOW than think about just resale
value? ... and have to wait for 2-3months just to get a one? and
keep it for a long time?

i bought my MCS off the dealer showroom. it was a demo. why? cause
i didnt feel like waiting 3months to get a new car. i wanted it and i wanted
it right then. so you're talking to the right guy when you want to get
pushed over for a quick trip to the dealer and come home with a new
car in matter of 1-2hrs... and unlike a lot of you quicky divorce your car
types, ive had my 03 since 2003. im the original owner. and i dont really
care about resale value cause ive already had plenty of fun with my car.

that's were i value a car's worth. and im pretty sure that's where most MINI
enthusiasts value their car. that's why i questioned if you were a true MINI
fan.

I appreciate the feedback Matt. You managed to give me your opinion without trying to insult me or pretend to know something about me.

(Oh, and this is far from my first Internet forum. I'm not scared of the Post Count Heroes. )

Np. I realized that one thing that I probably should have mentioned in the original post is that I will be waiting a few months to purchase anyway so that I can pay off some student loans and save for a decent down payment. At that point, the 2009s really will be near the end of their cycle as far as new cars are concerned.

Yeah, I was excited until I realized that they meant in 2010, as in model year 2011.

Yeah, as good as those reported changes sound, I don't know if I would wait an entire year.

Along with the refresh, most of the bugs should have worked their way out of the 2nd Gen design by then. Given that the production burden on the factory is not likely to match the '06 thru '08 pace, plus the additional attention to QC that is more than likely to occur with the recent negative initial quality press, I predict 2011 is going to be a very good year. Maybe even worth the wait.

If they fix the quirky interior controls it will REALLY be an improvement. The MINI is the only car I've owned where I still have to check the owner's manual to remember how to do some basic adjustments, a year and a half after my purchase. I think that's how MINI keeps you involved in the MINI experience!
