PW with Silver or Gray Stripes???

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased a new 09 Mini cooper S and IM LOVING IT. im am slowly modding her and i started with tint and clear bra installation.

NEXT, i am looking to do stripes. I had an idea to do silver / gray pinstriped viper stripes. It seems that everyone does black stripes on a PW but i think silver / gray stripes would look good as well as unique.

Though i have this idea in my head, its still hard to visualize. Ive search the forum and yet to find something close to what im talking about. Has anyone seen this? Do you guys think something of a lighter shade of silver / gray would look better on PW or would a darker silver would better.

Opinions are most welcome.

Thanks!

What color is your roof? I think most folks go with black stripes on PW because it matches the rest of the black trim (roof, mirrors, grille, etc).

yeap, PW with black roof.

I dont think gray would clash too much with the other black pieces. I almost got caught up in the plastic dipping craze but i will wait until after the silver / gray stripes go on.

I might just leave the grill surround, headlight surrounds chrome.

has any seen anything im trying to describe? pixs? im sure this isnt an original idea.

You might want to look into whether or not you can add vinyl over top of a clearbra. I'm not overly familiar with them, but it would be worth looking into.

i did some research into that. People have done clearbra on top of stripes as well as clearbra under stripes.

I went with the clearbra under stripes since i could always remove the stripes easier than removing the entire clearbra.

It's because there's way too much going on there. If they ditched the red pinstripe, body colored the headlight rings and grill surround, and carried the stripe through the scoop instead of plastidipping it I think it would look great.

You could always try a brownish stripe to warm it up a bit since PW is a bit more of a warm color than typical white.

It's just too busy in my opinion. You have 5 different colors going on in that picture, and you're mixing satin and gloss together.

Agreed.

Its on the right track though, just way too busy. Also i think the gray is a bit too dark.

Maybe a lighter gray or silver would give it a sleek / refined look.

You might want to see if there's a professional in your area, or talk to Lyle (Lagston) at lylesvinylstyles.net. You have lots of options for shades of gray vinyl and stripes would be a piece of cake to cut and install. The issue you'll have is your hood scoop, if you decide to try and carry it over it.

What area of the country are you in?

I have considered doing something similar on my PW/B MCS. I recently changed the mirror caps from black to Black Jack which are white, black and metallic silver. I was thinking black stripes (of whatever style) with a metallic silver pinstripe would look great. I have clear-bra also and am concerned with problems placing stripes over it. I am still on the fence.

I was going to do a dark sliver stripe with black pinstripes over Pure Silver, but (long story) ended up with black as a temporary measure. I ended up liking the black.

On the photo of the gray stripe with red pinstripes, I don't really like that gray, and think the pinstripes would look better black.

With white, you could use any color combination. The red pinstripes made me think the main stripe should be some other color. The obvious thing would be blue for the main stripe and red pinstripes, or vice versa.

I do like the Storm Trooper look of whiting out the chrome on PW. This would look great with a stripe, whether silver/black, gray/black, or multi-colors.

3M has a Satin Aluminum vinyl, but that's the only satin gray vinyl I know off the top of my head.

Edit: Lagston is somewhere in California, I would definitely give him a call/email.
