My '09 was ordered and delivered in NY State and had to be inspected there but since I'm in Vermont I had to get it inspected again within 15 days of registration. I now have 2 inspection stickers and I want to get rid of the NY one. It's in the very bottom corner of the driver's side windshield, and it's proving a pain to remove.

I soaked it using a wet rag pressed into the corner (taking precautions to protect the dash) and that got all of the paper part of the sticker off, now all that's left is the glue (which still shows all of the NY inspection information, it's just on a clear background now).

I've tried water, rubbing alcohol and I even broke into my newly delivered bottle of Clarity to see if that would work, but nothing is shifting this glue. I've heard that I could just scrape it off with a razor blade but my hands aren't that steady and it's too close to the dash for my liking. I thought I had a bottle of goo-gone but I can't find it...I do have some WD-40 that I thought might work since it's a solvent but it's dark out now and I've given up for the night.

BTW, my 06 had the NYS sticker and the warning sticker in the upper corner on it the whole time I had it (nearly 3 years), I was just too lazy to do this task on that MINI. This time around I'm doing it right Tomorrow if the weather cooperates will be my first ever "real" detail using dawn, clay, mystique, epic and clarity.

Any ideas on this glue issue??

 

use lighter fluid on a rag, it will take it off and leave nothing behind

 

window scraper, its a single edged razor blade with a handle that lets you reach in there. it takes off all the glue and the paper

 

Thanks guys...how do the windshield replacement guys do it keeping the sticker intact?? I was thinking probably steam...

 

GOO GONE! best thing in the world. Takes the glue off without elbow grease

 

+1. Works miracles. Had a bunch of decals/registration stickers left from the previous owner. Still took some elbow grease and a scraper, but everything came off.

Being that I am in NY I find this very interesting. There has been a widespread problem with inspection and registration stickers not sticking very well. I had to use packing tape to keep mine one. Of course you end up with the one that sticks lol.

 

goo gone is awesome. I use it for everything. Its a miracle worker on tree sap and bugs. Smells good to boot!

 

window guys use the window scraper... it lets you take the sticker off whole, steam would just make the ink run on the older style and melt the newer plastic style.

ok, so goo gone plus nearly an hour of scraping and it finally came off. I didn't have time for a full wash/dry/clay/wash/wax so I just did a Mystique wash and dried with Hydro, cleaned the windows and was done just before it got dark. Came out looking nice but I can't wait to see what Epic does next time

 

I have the same problem with my new (used) Mini from Virginia. I started with the Windex and Razor and figured I would go to WD40 next. But the Windex and Razor did all I needed. It left some stickiness but a little more Windex and Razor finished it off. My only advice, soak it good!! It wasn't coming off that great till I really laid on the Windex.
