Farewell my fellow MINI motorists.. Sold My MINI

Dang MINI was a POS.

Car wasnt a year old and it was at the dealer 5 times.

Car has 11K miles, list of fixes:

-Passenger window stopped working. (repaired twice)
-Sunroof wouldn't open when the car had been sitting in the sun for a while (repaired 3 times)
-Cam chain tensioner had to be replaced twice (car sounded like a diesel engine)
-This latest visit they replaced the clutch
-LED interior lights would light up the incorrect color instead of matching the rest of the car
-Sunroof rattled over bumps
-Rear window brake light fell out.
-Lots of other annoying rattles.

Im sorry, but a brand new car and all that mess before a year old.. No thanks. Its all warranty now, but I know it is a trend that I will end up paying for once it is out of warranty.

So, i traded it in, and took it on the chin. yes yes, i know how dumb it is to buy a car new, take the loss of value, then turn around and trade in.

I didnt loose as much as I could have. I worked it that they came off the sticker and gave me more for my trade. Not the best, but not the worst. I think both sides gave evenly.

So here's the new bonk.

2009 135i.
Fully loaded. Has the NAV, Premium package, M package (wheels, bigger brakes)
Lemaans Blue.
300 HP TT. This car has as much ***** as my previous e46 M3. Plenty nice. I also like it b/c you dont see too many 135's on the road. They only got released to the US last year. They sell plenty in europe.

Unless you are a BMW enthusiast, most foks have not heard of the 1 series. Couple folks already on the road I can tell were looking at the car and noticing the 135 on the back.

I want to wish everyone luck. And thank those that have helped me learn a lot.

I will be here from time to time as a friend of mine still has her MINI. No major issues and she got hers 3 months after mine.

Sorry you fell out of love with your MINI. I do understand that those kind of problems can really bug a person.

Good luck with you new car. If the 1 series came in a hatchback I'd look at one. As a coupe & vert it's a no sale to me.

Thanks all.

According to some forums, i can go from 300HP to 350ish relatively cheap.

Example:
Intake:
http://www.burgertuning.com/dcintake.html

Plus

http://www.burgertuning.com/jbplus.html

Total of about $500

Now do i do the BMW performance exhaust or aftermarket..
I think i like the Cp-e exhaust.. But $1400 yikes!

Wow, sorry to hear about the problems witht the Mini But we have the exact opposite problem as you My wife bought a "Certified Pre Owned" 05 BMW 330ci and you think you had a lemon? . This car has been in the shop 13 times in one year , plus it could go back in for more work, but since she ordered a new 09 MCS and we are picking it up Thusday, we said, let them deal with it So all in all, any BMW product has the potential for these kind of problems.

Sorry to hear about the problems.

There was a 1 series at VIR back in Nov. 2008 for the charity laps event.

Have fun with the new car...

and I hope it's a better ownership experience for you...

Out here in CA, there are BMW 1 series all over the place. Just like there are 3 series, 5 series and 7 series.... Seems every electrical engineer gets a 3 series with his bachelors degree!

I read that RMW can do dyno tunes on 135i's now so that's definitely worth looking into. With that car the gains have got to be phenomenal!! Good luck with the new ride. I can't blame ya for getting rid of it. I've had quite a few major (inexcusable) repairs on my '05 S but my financial situation didn't let me upgrade to something "better" so I stuck with it and its turning out to be pretty reliable 4 years later (KNOCKING EXTREMELY HARD ON A SHEET OF PLYWOOD!!)

I looked into getting the 1-series when i was looking at the MINI. I wanted one but the payments were a little out of what i wanted to pay. I would have been a little more strapped than i would have liked to be. Sorry to here about you problems with the MINI. No matter what type of car you buy there will always be that chance of getting one of the lemons. Good luck and give us a write up of your thoughts on the 1-series as i think it will be my next car once the MINI becomes the weekend car.
