seatbelt squeak

Lately, my seatbelt is squeaking horribly inside the retraction mechanism as the belt moves ever so slightly while I drive. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what did you do to alleviate the issue? Thanks

Jim

Sorry for bumping an older post. As the weather has gotten colder I have this exact same problem driving me nuts every morning. It eventually goes away once the inside warms up but those first 10-15 mins are murder . Anybody have a solution for this?

I have this problem in cold weather too. I have never found a good permanent fix, but have discovered that sometimes if I pull the belt way out and then let it retract that it will quiet down for a bit. My real fix was to start parking in the garage where it's warm, but it's not a very universal solution!

I think it happens to a lot of cars' seatbelt mechanism, not just the MINI. There's not much you can do except to turn on the music.

To be honest none of my other cars have done anything close to this. Sure there have been squeaks from the mechanism but this.... This is every tiny little movement.

Im going to have to find some part of this to add some grease to. Hopefully there is a diagram in a manual.

I haven't fixed my squeak yet. As the mornings get warmer around here it squeaks less and less so I have a feeling this will get bumped to the bottom of my todo list... until next Oct when it will drive me crazy again.
