Forge BOV Reviews/Thoughts

I just gone done installing the forge bov adapter. First off I must say that it sounds more like a boost leak than a bov. I was hoping more for a fluttering sound than a hissing leak. Does anyone know if this provides any performance gain at all? Because right now I feel like a douche letting all my filtered air out to atsmosphere and question if this releases more pressure off the turbo than diverting it back in. The holes seem pretty restrictive.

from the videos i've seen, it sounds the same as w/ intakes. i don't like the sound with intakes either. i think the only way to go for BOV is HKS SSQV

I've heard the same things. I have a Helix 13 BOV that I love. It's a real BOV and not a stupid adapter. Definitely reduces turbo lag too! I'd definitely get the HKS BOV if I ever get hard boost tubes.

The forge is simlpy a vent for the stock blow off valve... hence it sounds the same with an intake... because it IS the same!!

Heh. Well it's off now. I'll post it on ebay or if someone PM's me. For now I think I'm going to save up and get the JCW kit. I may go with the solid tubes route w/ a BOV someday in the future, prolly when there aren't as many issues with that setup.

On a side note, driving to work today felt like a little less boost/power with the adaptor off. I dunno if it's just messing with my head or what. Haha. Could be the weather.

There aren't any CEL issues with the BOV on the R56. I've been using my Helix 13 one for over 3500 miles.

could you install a HKS BOV the same way as a Helix 13 BOV is installed?

I know the way the HKS BOV mounts is quite a bit different than the ones seen from Helix and Alta. Those two companies use the OEM hose that the "noisemaker" connects to. This hose is attached to the throttle body boost tube. The HKS BOV has a flange mount on the bottom that's meant to be fastened to some type of pipe. You can't just stick it at the end of the pipe I mentioned previously. The Exhaust Depot tubes are a pretty good example of this.

What I thought about doing once I get the awesome RMW tune someday was upgrading to all hard tubes from Exhaust Depot, and using a boost port either from Helix or Alta. That way you don't need to drill your damn intake manifold!!
