Does the arm rest get in your way (tall guys)

Hi,

I'm 6'3 and I tried sitting in an MCS with factory arm rest positioned vertically (for the sake of pulling up the handbrake) and my elbow was banging against it. Am I just built that different or is this common among taller folks?

I'm 6'1 and my elbow hits the armrest when I try to pull up the e-brake as well. But besides that my elbow sits comfortably on the armrest when I'm driving.

I'm 6'3" and it's definitely a nuisance when I try to put it up, but I couldn't live without it when it's down. The after-market arm-rests all seemed too tall for me, the factory one was exactly where my arm wanted to be.

Which arm rest--flip-up top or slide top?

I have the flip-up one and don't have much of an issue. I'm 6'2".

I've never had my factory armrest vertical on my MCS. When I need the ebrake, I just pull it, and leave the armrest alone. I am glad I have it. I'm 6'5"

Arm Rest

I'm 6ft and I have to keep the rest up, otherwise my elbow hits the rest when shifting to 2nd, 4th and 6th. Had same problem with an '02 Ford SVT Focus. Guess it's because they build more "lazy shifters" than sticks.

Thanks. I agree, that it would be hard to be without an arm rest on longer trips. Guess I'll have to grow into obstructiveness of it. Wandrur, I'm not sure which type it was. I just know it was the factory install vs the dealer install.

When I was ordering my car I set in some with and without arm rests. I elected to go without. I just got back from an almost 2000 mile trip and didn't miss the arm rest at all.

i have the flip top. and was really sick of the angle of it. i put a few layers of felt in the hinge and now it's at 90 degrees. i dunno if anyone else had the problem but mine sat at maybe 65 degrees. it was pretty anoying. and every time i engaged the brake it would hit the rest. it looked like it had broken down. anyone else with this problem? felt is the fix.

Coken, appreciate the feedback, however I tend to use my armrest a lot. The armrest at the dealership seem to rest at the 90 degree angle with no issues.

I was told there were two types. One that slides back to open and one that flips open to the side. Some people say the one that slides back will start doing it on its own when you push the armrest up out of the way.

When I was checking them out I found that even when either type was pushed up it was still in the way. I agree, they are nice to keep stuff in and I do miss that part of not having one, but it was really not workable in my case. So far I have not really missed it that much. If it does become an issue for me, I can always add it later.

I believe the one that slides open is the factory model. This version's assembly looks better as well. I find armrests are great to lean on during longer road trips IMO.
