Strut towers

2006 MCS with 25,000 miles, stock 16" RF tires/wheels. No observable deformation of the strut towers, but I'm seriously considering purchasing the Craven strut tower braces (STD) as basic insurance. Those appeal more to me than the M7s and appear to bolt on just as easily. Any comments, good or bad???
Thanks,
Greg

They are a good part. I have the m7 plates, but the Cravens should work just as well.

I've had good luck with both the M7 and Craven strut tower plates. Can't go wrong they're cheap insurance.

Cravenspeed STD's

M7 SRP's

craven strut defenders

Strut defenders are installed! (2006 MCS) Easy Peasy. Taking my time, including gathering all necessary tools and equipment, about 30 leisurely minutes. Haven't noticed any bad indentations on the underside of the bonnet-liner as a result and the posts set roughly even to just proud of the 7/8" hold-down nuts. The only concern would be the the bonnet release cables rubbing on the larger, higher 7/8" nuts, but I doubt those will be a problem.

Actually, that might be something to look at. It is possible for that to were through the cable, which could make getting the hood open quite the chore. I would see if you could zip tie the cable out of the way.

When I installed my Craven plates I had to kind of shove the cable out of the way also; I will need to remember to check it soon and make sure there is not any serious abrasion.

Remember to re-torque the bolts in a week or two - they will settle a bit.

I just put a JCW strut brace and the mounts go all the way around the top of the strut towers, will this provide the same protection as the strut defenders?

I am getting set of M7 SRP plates next week. What is the recommended torque setting for the three nuts? Thanks

25 foot pounds each...

I did the M7's with cross over brace set up myself. Seemed the thing to do for the little extra it cost to get the cross over brace too.
