Naked stock air filter???

I haven't looked at his yet, but has anyone ever simply taken the plastic cover off the stock air filter housing and secured the flat air filter in place?

Would this help increase air flow through the filter?????

Nobody responded to my first post, so I'm reposting. Has anybody tried this? Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I don't know the schematics of an '09 but your question wpuld raise a couple of others.

What would hold the filter in place? As the airflow waxed and waned with the air flow, the filter would likely lift and lower defeating it's purpose. I would think that the top of the filter box would have some purpose.

Wouldn't you want cool the coolest air possible into your intake? Withot a top you would be sucking hot air from the engine compartment, instead of cooler air from the outside.

Question #1: Plastic ties. These could hold the filter in place.

Question #2: I'll answer with another question. You make an excellent point, BUT! Wouldn't ALL Cone filters have the same issue? Many of the higher performance intakes are not concealed within a box.

Dude really its a MINI not a Civic don't do that ricer *** ****. And no it would not increase the airflow cause you look how it is set up the fresh air comes from below the filter and up into the intake so it you just blow the filter off and with out the plastic cover it would not filter the air.

on an '09...the "cleaned" air is on the top of filter...right? The "dirty" air is the bottom. How would your idea work, even if you could "zip tie" it down?

That's exactly why I asked the question . . . looking for education, insight and experience. Another idea bites the dust!
