I get bored with cars easily, and often trade cars hoping to find "the car". Problem is that it's pretty hard to top the Mini. The VW GTI is a fine car, and some say a better value, but the car doesn't do it for me.
I love BMW coupes, but the price difference is significant, and I'm not sure it's worth it. I'd love an older exotic car - Acura NSX comes to mind. It's a great ride, reliable and relatively low upkeep costs. But it isn't as practical as a daily ride, and with two seats it is clearly targeted as a sports car.
So, if not the Mini, what do you choose?

Well, if we are being honest I'd probably get a Hyundai Accent or something cheap and funtional. I mean, without a MINI what's the point???

- GTI (ubiquitous but nicely designed, much better seats than MINI, better steering wheel than even the JCW, quieter/smoother) for the new with a factory warranty choice.
- Z4 3.0si used (the new one is too feminine) I've always been drawn to the unique design, tastefully executed interior and the N52 engine is a lightweight gem (better than the new iron-block twin-turbo!)
- Lotus Elise used Is any explanation needed?
- E46 330i ZHP I usually don't like silver cars, but this one in silver is the perfect understated sleeper if I needed something larger.
The MINI has changed my outlook on cars a bit. If the MINI has never existed, I'd be driving something small and practical. The Honda Fit looks like a good candidate. After having MINIs, there's nothing that really does appeal which isn't a MINI, so I don't really know.
Our criteria for a car was "small, fuel efficient, hatchback", now I have to add "as fun to drive as a MINI", and I can't think of anything which isn't a MINI.

Hmmmm, Great topic! When considering this question, there's really two ways to answer; 1. What you would ideally love to drive 2. What would be most practical/realistic alternative
For me, the answer to #1. would be something like the Exige or Ariel Atom.
But if I was going to address #2: Maybe an Audi A3 or used S4; Or something a little more luxury and less thrill...and somewhat affordable.

Or my other car, my TR6!
