MCa 2005 Brake Upgrade Questions (Poll)

All NAM;

The wife's MCa needs new front brake pads and front rotors now at 36K....

Want to do a stealth (mild) upgrade on the car w/o breaking the bank (dealer wants way too much for OEM!) and ticking the Missus off....

Looking to the community for what works / doesn't work for mild pad / rotor upgrades on a MCa...

Thanks in advance!

Chadtoolio;

The local dealer price of over $600 seems unreasonable to me...I figure there's a much cheaper alternative that can deliver as good as or better performance

That and adding to the other mods (intake, exhaust, perf rubber, Konig Feathers and strut brace) I've made w/o the wife finding out....I would say this is my main goal...

Besides the dust, I don't think there is much better that you can get for the street going with the OEM stuff. You might check Pelicanparts.com for cheaper OEM stuff, they also have alternative stuff. Braided brake lines will make a difference, they maybe not pads and rotors but it still is in the brake category.

Ok, I think I need to add something to this....as far as upgrades, I see lots of people with big brake kits that just don't need them. Not saying your in that category. My GM raced 3 different Coopers over the past 7 years in SSB/SSC SCCA classes(1 Cooper, 2 Cooper S's). Rules stated that Rotors, brake lines, and calipers must remain stock. Only pads could be changed(they used Carbotech pads). Both him and his son are very fast and never had any issues with brake fade. I could see some issues with brake fade or just flat out smoking the factory pads on the Dragon(which I did recently, but was going into antilock 50% of the corners), or on the track. The Carbotechs on the track never failed me. I guess I'm just really impressed with the OEM quality. They may be dusty, but they just are much more concerned with really good braking than about some dust.
