H/K Amplifier Repair?

My H/K amp is dead, or so I have been led to believe. Looking through the marketplace, I notice a lot of this going on. Call me a cheap bastard, but I will listen to my Zune through earphones before I will pay 400 bucks for a new/used one.
Has anyone had any luck finding a repair facility? And if so, how much?

Someone claimed to have successfully repaired one; claims it was the 'trigger circuit' whatever that is. Haven't heard anything lately. Someone else was collecting dead h/k amps to facilitate research. Updates anyone?

I would like to know if there is any update to this. Has anyone figured out how to fix these HK amps that go dead?

Mine died, but it was under warranty and was replaced at no cost to me. Should have asked for the old one....

Not unless you understand electronics. To date there is no repair, that being said, I would look at it when or if mine went bad.

Just had mine die the other day. Argh.

Has anyone ever tried a H/K amp from a BMW of the same vintage? There's a ton on eBay for ~$100. They look very similar though have different numbers on their labels.

Quick follow-up: It looks like I'm not the first to wonder if the BMW amp would work. Found an auction in which a MINI-er is selling a BMW amp they thought would work with the comment "PURCHASED IN ERROR THOUGHT IT WOULD WORK IN MINI COOPER" in the auction description. Damn.

Here's the auction in case you're curious:

If it's a MINI branded amp it should work. I have a JUSTA amp in my 53 and I had a cabrio amp as a backup, before I needed some cash and sold it. It now live in an R53 and is running just fine.

There is a lengthy post somewhere about the effort involved in getting the BMW version to work in the MINI. Apparently it can be done, but takes a lot of work and is not plug-n-play.
