Earlier in the winter, I had placed an order for some Banana Gloss and some Slick. When the product arrived, It went unnoticed and sat outside in single degree weather for an extended time. I checked with Nick, he mentioned it would likely be okay because of the amount of petroleum that is in the product.

I went to use it this weekend, and am not sure it looks right. I know it is supposed to look like a vanilla milk shake, but mine looks like vanilla milk that's gone bad. It looks like little bits of curd are floating in the mixture even after a fairly violent shake.

Can you folks out there who are using Banana Gloss tell me what yours look like when you pour some out on your car?

 

Mine's always been very thin - almost the consistency of water. The color is a light tan/yellow - almost like malted milk.

I've never noticed any solids suspended in the BG, though - what happens when you apply it to your car - do those little "curds" spread easily across the paint, or do they stay as little solid chunks?

 

Yip, the consistency is very thin. But no chunks, not even tiny ones.

 

The stuff separates, though. I'd just keep shaking. And shaking. And shaking.

 

sounds like the carnauba just froze and changed properties or something.

Both Nick and Heather have said that most of their products can take a freeze or 2. Maybe it went through more freeze/thaw cycles than that. I would shake it till your arm feels like it is going to fall off, then switch arms and shake it some more. Get one of the curds out, and see if it will mush up and blend back in.

You said you poured it on your car, don't do that, as you will end up putting way to much product on, and just wasting it. Apply some to a towel/pad/skinny pad first, then wipe it onto the paint.

ok, I think mine is bad. Even after vigorous shaking it still is like pouring curdled milk on the car. Even when I spread it out, it stayed kind of clumpy. Bummer.

i recommend you get Hydro and use that.

 

Don't throw it away just yet! Maybe pour it into a bowl and mash the clumps with a spoon and mix it up real good. Maybe shaking alone isn't breaking up the clots.

I'd do that unless the DP folk let us know that an actual chemical change has occurred and the product is now something else.

 

but wat if it turns all bubbly? add baking soda and some olive oil?

 

... don't forget the yeast. Put in oven till done. Enjoy!

 

Mine froze HARD this winter (like -20). It separated but did shake back together. No chunks. I'd say you need a replacement!

 

Yeah, I use lots of Hydro. But was looking for something that lasted a little bit longer.

all i use now on my dd's. easy on easy off easy to
maintain. wash and seal in 1hr tops.

Although as others have mentioned, most products, including BG, can usually recover from freezing, it sounds like yours may have been too frozen or for too long. The clumping is definitely a result of being left out in the single digit temps for a bit.

If you've already given it some vigorous shaking, then I don't think it will come back together for you.

Will it hurt anything if you use it? No. Will it work as well? I can't imagine that it will.

Moral of the story for other NAMers out there... please don't let your precious car care products freeze!
