Taking a quick poll... bonnet or racing stripes?

I am taking delivery of my MC Midnight black with a white roof at the end of May. I am stuck between the classic white bonnett stripes and the racing stripes that also come down the boot. What does everyone think???

Why limit yourself to black and white when there's a world of color available out there?

You are NOT stuck with only what the dealer/Mini offers!
What about Silver racing stripes all the way 'round? Makes an interesting contrast going from silver-on-black to silver-on-white...

Perhaps a favorite color that shows up well against your black/white?

What about a checkered roof? Checkered stripes?

Perhaps a helipad graphic on the roof? (I love that one!)

Go wild - it's YOUR car! But.... do let us know what you've done!

What do you guys think about this one? Hey, love the red! Where did you get those? Did they have them with blue?

I like the sport/viper stripes, especially since I have a chronic, on-going beef with the placement of the more typical MINI bonnet stripes.

I just received my car last week. I have the same color scheme as you. It came with the bonnet stripes and I had ordered the viper stripes from mini graphics but didn't arrive till today. I took off the bonnets and am planning to put the stripes white on the bonnet and boot including the bumpers and black on top.
In my opinion it gives the car an aggressive look.

The white stipes with the X-tra wide red pins were made by Mike at Aesthetic Creations who needs to thank me for putting two of his kids through college.

It's a funny twist that the new stripe option is called 'racing stripes' since the original bonnet stripes were racing stripes.

See here.

Here's mine. It's Astro Black with the white roof, but yours would look very similar I'm sure. I personally like the racing stripes!

Very nice Skunk! Funny... I thought about naming mine "Flower" after the skunk in Bambi! I am naming her "Dash" with my license reading "DASHING". I really like your reverse stripes!

Got these from Mighty Stripes (NAM vendor). Cooper Flags, and Aesthetic Creations also do quality work, I hear.

(license plate has since been replaced)

If the car were all black, I'd probably go with something like electric blue, or red. With a white roof, I'm not so sure. It would have to be a different color over the roof. Sticking with the black & white theme would be easiest.

I'm not too fond of the factory option stripes. I understand the heritage of the bonnet stripes. They are taken from Cooper F1 cars of the 1960's. Photo from a Motor Trend blog:

I don't recall seeing these stripes on the Monte Carlo Minis of the 1960's. I think they were added much later. So, they don't have a lot of nostalgia appeal to me.

Bonnet stripes are a little more "heritage", as a lot of classic MINIs had similarly positioned stripes. Racing stripes are more... sporty, obviously.

The factory racing stripes heritage comes (as I recall) from the first Ford GTs that beat Ferrari at Le Mans. So, nothing to do with MINIs (except that the Ford GT was mostly engineered in England for Ford), but a lot of nostalgia for Yanks who took pride in an American car company beating the prancing horse.

The most common racing stripe on sedans when I was a teenager was the 4" stripe with a 1/2" stripe on ether side. It was usually off center, in line with the steering column.

I think putting the Cooper F1 racing stripes on the bonnet of Minis was done as a joke of sorts. Anyway, I don't recall it from the days of yore, so personally, it has little nostalgia appeal. The British flag on the roof was the signature of the Mini to me. YMMV.
