MINI card reward points

Hello, all!

I was wondering if anyone here has used their Mini credit card points to get discounts on their Mini purchase? I only have about 6,000 points on mine right now (which equates to $50 bucks off...but hey, I'll take what I can get!). Do you have to call Mini before you buy your car, or can the MA call while you're filling out the paperwork? When are the points applied, exactly?

Oh, and has anyone used Mini financing (since it appears that it's mandatory to get $$$ back)? Good deal? Bad deal?

Thanks!

I believe if you read the fine print, you can only get an actual car discount after accumulating 500,000 miles! good for $5K off your new MINI. Half a million bucks spent on your credit card is chump change, right?

I had no idea they did that... But HEY!!! I'm willing to sacrifice myself and help you rack up those 500,000 miles on your card!!! (Good luck!)

I think you're much better off just using them for parts/service/etc especially if you have to use MINI financing. For each of my 3 cars they were never the most competitive rate.

When I was using my points, I had to call MINI Card Services first and give them about 24-48 hours leeway to cut and send a check for the particular dealership that I said I was going to. Theoretically it could then be used for anything at the dealership. I'd call MINI Card Services though since they recently changed their site as well as their terms and conditions and the rewards program appears is no longer visible, although the general belief is that the program is still there.

I have.

In February 2008 I had about 52,000 pts accrued in our MINI card. We bought our Clubman S then and had it financed for 36 months with MINI Financial Services. The next day after we had taken the car home and with a copy of the MFS loan contract on hand, I called the MINI Visa card to redeem our points. The customer service rep asked for the MFS loan contract number. That was pretty much it. We redeemed 50,000 points = $500. 3 days later I had a $500 check made out in my name from MINI Visa card to do with it as I please.

Unless they have changed the procedure, you can not apply the points directly to the new car purchase at the dealer in the same fashion you would do with the GM Mastercard. With the GM card, the dealer redeems the points directly and they get disburse to them as well and become part of the deal. Not so with the MINI or BMW Visa card program.

Until recently, I had accrued again 62,000 points in the car and recently just redeemed 10,000 pts = $100 in "MINI Moola" awards. If redeeming points for a non-car purchase, MINI Visa makes the check in the dealer's name where you plan to spend the money. You do receive it on the mail but you can not dispose of the money directly.

Right now I have 52,000 pts sitting in my account. It will be another 4 or 5 years before I am in the market for a new MINI. By then I hope to have at least another 250,000 pts accrued = $2,500 for my next MINI purchase.

If you redeem 500,000 pts (or more) for a new MINI lease or finance purchase, MINI VISA will match your reward point by point. 500,000 pts = $5,000 dollars. So in theory it is possible to have a cash rebate of $10,000 for your next MINI purchase. But of course you have to make half a million or more worth of credit card purchases on your MINI account to take advantage of that. That is the catch

Hope this helps!

I use a CitiCard drivers edge. You get 1% on everything and 3% on auto stuff like gas/service. Plus you get $.01 for each mile you drive! I got $525 right now coming my way so far.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I had that CitiCard too and had to chime in! I was soooooo sad when they told me the program was ending in March and they sent me a 'Thank You' card instead! I only use it every once in a while now as it's not as good, but not worth closing the account.

At least I was able to redeem the rest of my $244 points when i got my new lease this month as the Driver's Edge points are valid for one year from March. I loved being able to use it for car expenses though, and the $.01 per mile was the best deal of the card. This is probably why they ended it as they were losing to much money in this economy! :(
