R50/53 White spot on bonnet stripes
White spot on bonnet stripes
I have this white spot on my black bonnet stripe it's about the size of a pinky nail. At first I thought I could scratch it off but then I couldn't feel anything on the surface when I tried to rub it off. My guess is that something dripped on it and when I left my car in the sun somehow it got soaked into the vinyl? Is there any way of getting rid of this? I absolutely do not feel anything when I rub it with my finger and since it's white on black it's very noticable.
I don't have the OEM stripes on my car, but according to another poster's experience here, the black stripes may actually be white vinyl printed with black ink. His detailer accidentally "bleached out" a small spot on the black stripe while trying to remove some tree sap.
Perhaps something similar has happened to your stripe? Possibly some extra-acidic bird poop or similar contaminant has bleached away some of the black ink, exposing the white vinyl underneath. That would explain why you can't feel anything when you run your finger across the white spot.

Actually your description sounds exactly right. The white spots are probably the white vinyl underneath the blank ink. Arrrghh... wish I could have caught the acidic material before it ate through the blank ink.
My detailer did bleach out the black ink while removing a tree sap spot. He had an installer replace both the stripe and the clear bra over it at no charge. He told me that indeed the black stripes are just ink over the white vinyl.
The reason he removed the sap with a solvent is that it would eat through the stripe and then into the paint, also.
I had wondered what that little spot on the stripe was. I had no idea sap could appear like that.
Check with Detailers Paradise for more info. He is really helpful.
