Cheap exhaust mod?

Ok,

I see many of you guys take your ride to a local exhaust shop and have a system done.

I was thinking of putting together a DIY kit. The stock plumbing if i recall is about 2.25". You want to go 2.5" when you do your setup so it flows better.

The problem is that when you bend a 2.5" pipe on a regular muffler machine, the diameter of the pipe is 1.9" at the bends, thats smaller than stock. Soooo....

I was thinking of selling some sort of pipe kit. Then you can take it to your local shop and have them weld that in with a muffler of your choice. I could make the piping in 2.5 or 3" in mandrel bent tubing. What ever you want. It will come out cheaper than what a full bolt on kit will cost you after the fact. What do you guys think?

So would this be mandrel bends?

You don't really note anything stating how you were going to make the bends better...

Silly me! Yes it will be a mandrel bent setup. Ill put up a DIY section and have options for mufflers, glass packs and resonators. Maybe tips too.

Then you can pretty much customize your full setup. Ill try to put up as much info as far as sound. I twould be great if you guys could take sound clips too so i can have a library so that the next guy can see how the various setups will sound.

Just tell me what sound you want to go for and ill give you the 411. THe first question I need to know is if your wife wears the pants. Because if she does then for sure ill be giving you the 411 for a mellow setup.

Funny story.

I did this:

http://srt4tech.com/exhaust/challenger/challanger1.JPG

http://srt4tech.com/exhaust/challenger/challanger2.JPG

I did it for a local shop's customer. It sounded awsome. Heck he even got a super charger put on the next week. My customer's customer calls me up and tells me that it is a little to much for his wife.

I told him that if he would have delt with me direct and told me that his wife wore the pants I would have made it right the first time. I had to put extra resonators in the rear for him.

Alot of my buddies have used tubing kits for their cars from various companies. Prices range from seem to range from $100 to $200 based on diameter and material.

The thing about the mini exhaust is it is essentially a straight pipe from the dp back. So a tubing kit only makes sense for a turbo back IMO.

I would be all over a tubing kit for a 3" dp to a 2.5" cat back in ss for around $175. Not sure what is standard but it would be nice to get flanges and hangers as well.

The pipe for a turbo mini is a straight shot back and has only 180 degree rotations between the bends but its not a straight pipe going back. You have 5 bends in that pipe, just that the 180 degree rotations make it look like a straight pipe if you look under the car.

Also a tubing kit for $175 in SS is not going to happen unless you get imported china tubing which turns colors and gives you brown spots.

Depending on the finish, ive been quoted at the highest over $225 for a stick of US quality polished tubing in 10' sections!

OH yeah, this pipe kit is for the turbo mini. Im yet to have an super charged one come to the shop for exhaust work. IF i get one in ill make a pipe kit for it too.

I am not trying to argue, I really like what you are trying to offer the Mini community and obviously you know your costs better then I would. However places like vrs exhaust offer 3" ss tubing kits for $200 (obviously not polished). I would consider something in that price range reasonable.

I am just a small 3 man shop (two of us and a helper) . I cant compete with Miami Muffler. They have been in business for about 20 years and their tooling has been payed off years ago. The majority of their business is local where as mine is internet so they can afford to ***** out products. Also miami is a ***** house when it comes to business in general hence why I left S. Florida and came to central FL. Also if you look at their kits, its for older vehicles which some for the most part are no longer made and some are for very competitive markets like civics, sentras etc.

My edge would be that I also tune vehicles and do more than just installing a simple muffler I like to figuring out ways to prevent a CEL from coming on when you install a downpipe etc. As well as offering tips and educating the customer long after a sale.

I think my pricing on this kit is WAY MORE than reasonable especially since I am not charging a European tax on it if you get my drift. For example, i pay allot more vender fees on this forum and yeild way less sales vs my other ones. ReasonI pay more here "Market price."

Definitely would like a Clubman S exhaust piping kit! I don't like the mufflers a lot of the companies put out so I'd like to make my own setup.

I wont be offering flanges with it unless requested. The OEM one is one long piece. I make flanges only so i can ship. Being that you will be putting this together, you dont need to flange it.

Most likely ill slip fit it for you.

I moved to Orlando, less cubans up here. lol.

Lol. Slip fit will work great. Let me know what you can throw in the turbo flange for also.

I live in Aventura now, and I agree. ;-)

I live in Aventura too. Ives Dairy. We need to get together so we can travel up there one weekend and see if we can get a group buy on his exhaust!
And also, I would like to see how you adjusted the lower control arms to get rid of some negative camber. (Which shop)

I'm on 207th. PM me and I'll let you know of some other performance parts you're missing

Hector, PM me with some details about a 2 for 1 type deal
I still think I'd want a DIY setup because its cheaper and I have a welder handy, but if you can make it worth my while I'll change my mind
