Exhaust Depot R56 downpipe

Received a message from Exhaust Depot today concerning a newly manufactured downpipe which is not supposed to throw CEL's and is now on sale.

Here's the link to their site with pricing:

Now this looks interesting A few questions: Is this compatible with the JCW R56? Also, are there any dyno graphs yet?

Getting it coated and I believe they wrap it as well. I guess I'll find out next week. Altogether about $780 w/shipping.
Ouch, received downpipe today WITHOUT CERAMIC COATING which I paid $95 for. Had high temp spray paint and heat wrap for $95 instead. Called and was told ceramic coating was no longer offered, asked for a credit, and none was forthcoming.
I am sure I misunderstood a previous communication last week, as I would have ordered it bare metal.
I'm keeping the downpipe because it's a nice piece of work, but if I was doing it again I'd get an Akrapovic for the same $.

That's the decision that I have made. Just waiting to pull the trigger. Not sure why really but I guess that I am getting cheap in my old age. With Akrapovic you know it's super top notch.

Yea, I'm guessing I should have done that in the first place as well. In my old age I'm thinking enjoy things while you're able, because you can't take it with you . Besides, E.D. charges a 25% restocking fee and I would have lost more returning it. .

If he didn't ship what you ordered, there shouldn't be any restocking fee. If he's giving you trouble, just take it up with your credit card company.

Update, Billet Design received my email and called me back and said they would refund the $95. Kind of got a confusing runaround about the spray paint, baking it on and applying the header wrap, and trying to tell me it was worth $95. I said the ceramic coating was what I ordered and I didn't get that. Heat resistant paint and a revised probably $3 worth of heat wrap was not what I ordered.
Anyway, I'll check with the credit card company next week and see if the credit has been applied.
By the way, E.D.'s rules about restocking are pretty strict, custom work is their reason?

I'm just surprised you got anything. His shop was closed down and his phone number was disconnected for a while and he's no longer a NAM vendor.
I bought one of his exhaust systems a while ago, but it was so heavy and clunky, one of the hangers tore right off the muffler and I ended up just scrapping the whole thing.

I just got the catted downpipe. Looks like I'll have to weld an additional supporting bracket on if I think it needs one. No real biggie for me. Should have been done already, but like I said, if I had went with Akrapovic first I would probably would have been way ahead for the same $.
Read to many threads praising E.D. I guess If it doesn't work out I'll visit Ebay to sell it, or it might make a nice decorative mantel piece. .

I was very interested in the ED downpipe for the same reasons, but this thread now has me re-thinking supplier.

Way Motor Works also sells a DP. I've had good experience with Way and his products and he's also very knowledgeable and reputable.

I've never heard of Akrapovic but sounds like a good option. I only see a catback exhaust on their site though for the Mini. Do the sell a DP as well?

Akrapovic offers a catted downpipe, I'm pretty sure they don't make a catless one.
I was thinking Way as well ( good peeps ) but the E.D. was strongly touted as having no CEL issues. Thinking I was looking for better flow and less headaches, oh well, just hoping everything works out good from here on.

I think you could safely do business with E.D. through Billet Design Motorsports. They just basically took over E.D. and may not have fully understood what E.D. was selling? Just make sure you know what you are buying and what they are offering.
They seemed to think that baked heat temp paint and a couple of dollars worth of header wrap equaled ceramic coating, which is no longer offered.
They were very hesitant to credit my account for the non-existent ceramic coating until I sent them a rather pointed email, that it would probably cost them a lot more than they were trying to save by not crediting my account.
I will check with my credit card company next week to make sure I received credit, and can officially remove them from the naughty list.

I agree with you 100%. Paint is nowhere near ceramic coating and I'm surprised anyone would even try to pass it off as such.

Have you installed the DP yet? I'd be interested in hearing a performance review and knowing whether or not it triggered any CELs. I'm really interested in an aftermarket DP as I hear it's one of the better mods for adding real performance gains.

Sorry, the snow is going to have to melt a little more before I install the DP. Still have 3ft. in the front yard . Still I might get it in next week (temp. might hit 50 ) but it'll be a garage inmate probably until the middle of April .
I'm also waiting for a FMIC from Helix and some other stuff and would like to tear it down and do every thing at once.
@oldcracker, might not be able to find at a reasonable price locally, check auto stores. I have access to alot of metro Minneapolis stores but it's hard to find for some reason.
I get mine from Summit Racing, decent prices, but I s'pose you have to pay duty? Good luck.
