Plasti dippin the door handles... tricks?

I've been busy customizing my MCS R56 the past week. I installed the JCW body kit, NVD motorsport carbon side scuttles and now i am in the process of painting the HL, TL, gas cap and door handles with Plasti dip.

I already painted all the parts mentionned except the door handles. Obviously they are a lot more complicated to take off so i guess you guys just spray paint them in place? Or do you use the liquid one with a brush? I dont mind spray on the spot, it's just a lot of preparation covering the surroundings.

Anyway, does anybody have tricks or advice on this??

Looks like you've already done most of the work, but you might check out AesthetiCreations - they have some really cool molded parts that fit over your existing handles

Good luck!

OP: I would definitely brush it on. Unlike spray paint, plastidip does not come off cleanly off the edges where you tape(not unless you remove the tape before the dries). Instead, I would just take a piece of thin cardboard, use a brush and move the cardboard along wherever you're brushing. That way you don't get the other parts but the plastidip does not have a chance to dry.

Sounds good, only i dont have a can of the liquid one and the nearest is an 1h30 from me (have to drive from Montreal to Lowes in Plattsburgh!). I do have a new spray can available, maybe i'll spray plenty in a cup or something and then brush it on. Anyway, thanks for the input

Have you actually done this? Because in my experience plastidip is a pain to brush on anything... and doesn't self-level as well as when dipped, or sprayed in my experience.

I sprayed my handles (as have quite a few other folks) with good results. You just need to mask well, and it helps to use an Xacto knife to score around the masking line after each coat while it's still partially damp, then one final time after all coats are fully dry. Then the masking removes cleanly and the results look great.

Good to have that second opinion since i've never used Plati dip with a brush. So i guess i'll stick with my original plan and spray paint just like you did. Just gotta pick up some large covering paper and i'm all set.

On my other parts, i gave 3 generous coats, does this sound like what you have put also?

I think I did one light coat and three wet coats on the handles.
