European Performance Labs (EPL) tunes

We all know about the ECU tunes out there and one's we hope will be there soon (RMW/Dimsport) but I found EPL that said they can custom tune the R56. Not cheap but not a canned tune!

Need to find out if anyone is familiar with this company. They are active in the VW, Audi, and Porsche community. Meet one guy (996tt) that has his tune and he loves it. Forum members that have a VW, Audi or Porsche please let me know if you are familiar with or have this tune on one of your cars.

Here's a link to their site:

http://www.eplabs.net/products

They have a shop up here (Seattle) that is a local dealer Addict Motorsport Design (AMD), and the owner Jason, feels pretty comfortable that he and Tony (EPL) can tune the R56.

If anyone has heard of this company or better yet has first hand experience with their VW, Audi or Porsche, please post your impressions and feedback on their ECU tune.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Has he tuned an R56 before... the U.S. spec MINIs are supposedly ridiculous to tune. I'm going to bet it is the MAF... those crazy Brits are tuning their R56s like crazy and the only difference is the MAF... right?

Don't think he has tuned an R56! My major concern.

The only difference, from what I've read, is the MAF sensor. Can't understand why this would create such a obstacle to tuning the ECU.

Hoping someone has experience with EPL on one of their other cars and can provide some first hand knowledge.

Cheers!

mariomllr, please keep us up to date on your experience with EPL. Think you will be the first R56 they tune.

Are you doing anything in conjunction with the tune like Aqua Mist system?

Cheers!

EPL has a very good rep around the Audi world forum community im part of.
My buddy just sold his stg III audi s4 (B5), which ran 11's and was ~500 awhp, and it was his daily driver. it wasn't pushing the car to its limits, as it can be more aggresively tuned, but for what it was, EPL did a great job. I know of others who have tunes from EPL done to their audis as well, but never heard of anything for the MINI yet.

Hey Boomer,
keep us updated, I'm interested in finding a shop here in Seattle that can do a real tune as well. Preferably a full ecu tweaking (to unlock that pop & burble of the EU cars), not just a boost increase.

^I'm betting the alta ecu upgrade will do just that... seems like they're close to release.

Where'd you get your springs installed nitro? I'm trying to find a shop.

n1tr0, I'll be following the post by mariomllr. EPL is the company for the software and Addict Motorsport Design (Woodenville) is the local shop.

Just have to wait & see. They don't have a reputation in the Mini or BMW community and from what I have been told the Mini ECU is far different than the BMW ECU and the R56 ECU is far different than the R53.

If you get a chance, visit AMD shop and let me know what you think.

Cheers!

Hello All,

My name is Tony and I'm the owner and head software developer for EPL. We're excited to get started in the r56 market. We've owned an r53 for quite sometime, and locally have custom tuned many of them.

The ecu the mini uses is very similar in architecture to the VAG 2.0 TFSI ecu's (MED17). I have tuned many of these. We have had our first r56 through the shop for testing and ecu code is nearly identical.

I hope that many of you have or will consider Aquamist for these cars. The stock k03 produces a considerable amount of heat. Aquamist will knock the intake air temperatures down with out blinking an eye.

Thanks for the kind words.

Correct, the r56 mini ecu is VERY differen then a BMW or r53 ecu. Its acutally much closer to what we have been working on for the last 5+ years .

If you are successful with that r56 tune you were talking about, how much will it cost us? ballpark-ish.

I'd try contacting him directly through PM or phone - if he starts posting prices he could get in trouble since he isn't a sponsor.

Actually the role he should have is Vendor... as he already is crossing the line of advertising, small frail line.

If he does have a solution for tuning, and was looking to sell it I would think he would become a Vendor and offer it.

except that he doesn't seem to be directly selling any products, he's just developing a tune that's then sold through 3rd party tuner/dyno shops ...
Tough call, I'd hate to see anyone who's really developing new products chased away, but if you're going to pedal goods on NAM....

still waiting for a response to my post & pm, any chance of modifying other ecm properties, like the off throttle fuel cut & such to bring back the pop & burble like the European cars & JCW ?

^i'd like a delay, like a 10 second delay or something... i kinda like the off-throttle fuel cut because it does greatly increase fuel efficiency when you're traveling down hills, but love the burbles...

although, i was heading down from a day snowboarding at stevens pass and was confused as to why my heat hadn't kicked in... I was in 5th without my foot on the peddle...

oops.
