ALTA Turboback install

Got it installed for $60 at my local exhaust shop! First off, the sound is fantastic... it definitely isn't loud, and the power gains are immediately noticeable off the bat!

This is definitely one of the finer exhausts I've heard on a 4-cylinder car, but if you are looking for loud, DO NOT GET THIS EXHAUST. They do not lie when they say, "No loud farty Honda sounds here!"

I'm pleased with the product... it has a nice and heavy feel to hit, and the matte black paint on the catback is fantastic. Thumbs up to ALTA for a product that meets its promises!

The sound is marvelous... I can't wait until it is broken in!

Does it have "the drone"??? I've been going back and forth about turboback or catback, but I don't want the drone!

Learning something new everyday.

Edit: So... a bigger free flowing exhaust is going to help get rid of any drone then right (i.e., the turbo-back)?

Yeah, I didn't mean getting rid of the cat, resonator, etc. I meant just using a bigger pipe.

Ummm no, that's not correct at all.

Drone is caused by RESONANCE! Mufflers and "Resonators" (notice the name) break up the resonance. Exhausts have "pulses" those pulses cause resonance. You might have heard the term "resonance tuned" which means a core of engineers have actually engineered the exhaust to allow the exhaust pulses to travel at a certain speed to aid in scaveging (pulling exhaust out of the combustion chamber to enable more room for clean air from the intake side and thus more power).
Read here if you want to get a decent understanding of the basics of an exhaust http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Miscella...austtheory.htm

You think race cars dont have any drone???? They run no cats, mufflers or resonators, and they drone like crazy...

But seriously.. that thought is all kinds of incorrect.

LOL well thats a simple question that the OP can answer. Just remember, what some people consider drone, others consider "sporty" so you might have a completely differnet opinion if you were to hear it yourself.

There are a few ways to help reduce drone (adding hangers attached to rubber grommets (rubber can kind of buffer resonance), adding resonators.. etc..

Here is my experience... Turbo cars have a nice big block in the exhaust path, so resonance isn't as prevalant on turbo cars. With that said, I've never owned a 3" exhaust (and I've had 3 of them now on different 4 banger cars) that hasn't droned. The cars with turbo's on them, had the least amount of drone (and IMO was totally bearable for daily driving). My friends supercharged car with a 3" drones like mad. But none of the 3" exhausts were like "stock" with regard to drone.''

Edit.. let me add, I have never run a car without at least a single muffler AND a resonator (both were always of the "straight through" design so minimal muffling).

Listen up! I'm a down-to-earth and honest "young-pup" (20 years) and I'll tell the truth to my modifications.

1. The power is certainly there, and it helps low end power quite a bit. However, the ECU won't let you have much fun above 5,000rpm (might be different in manuals, I have an automatic), so the power delivery is cut there. I do have a certain number of other modifications (see signature), and I know these contribute to the high-end power loss.

2. There is drone, but only between 3000-4000rpm. Fortunately, if you are cruising on the highway at 85mph (legal in some parts), the drone is not there. As a matter of fact, you cannot hear the exhaust... cruising sounds almost stock. Slight acceleration will induce a drone, which is a toneless bass note, but if you get on it, the beauty of the exhaust is heard in all RPM.

3. I have been in some friend's ricer Hondas, and this exhaust simply outclasses them. You get what you pay for. My wife stated that on our way back from San Antonio (she followed in her Mercedes), she could not hear my exhaust when I was accelerating normally, but she could hear it when I floored it. She stated that it wasn't annoying or loud at all. She stated that those F250 diesel trucks that are prevalent around South Texas are about as loud as my exhaust, which isn't bad at all considering it is a turboback.

In the end, it is a quality exhaust system. For the price I paid for it, I am certainly glad of the results. The quality is just fantastic, and it certainly does not feel like it is going to fall apart in a few years like some exhausts tend to do. I am very pleased with this product.
