Interior/Exterior S Gas Cap install How-to
Just completed this upgrade. While the procedure seems complicated, it is really not. I did the whole job in 1-1/2 hours, taking my time on a hot day.
The trick is to get matching paint, including clearcoat before you do the install. Your dealer can help, but they usually need to order the paint and that could take a while. It is better to get the paint code from the dealer (you need to provide the VIN) and then go to an auto paint supply store that can mix the paint and put it in an aerosol can for you. This costs about $25 for a pretty big can. You don't use much, and you have it for the future. Make sure to use a compatible clearcoat over it.
The hardest part of the job is getting the painted trim collar to seat against the inside collar. With a bit of gentle but firm pressue against the tabs, it can be done. Just make sure the paint has had a chance to dry well before you do this.
It really looks great, especially if you have a few other chrome pieces on the car.

tbalutis,
Hi....
I've seen Peter's car (the above pictured) in person and I agree it looks great!
Glad that it went well. By the way... what color MINI do you have?
I would love to see some pics.
Happy Motoring,
SW
