OBX catback exhaust

I have noticed the OBX Catback on ebay for $275.00 plus shipping which would make it around $350ish. Has anyone installed this system yet here is the link to ebay and the stats on the system. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-C...ht_2300wt_1440

I can't really say anything about the quality other than it looks nice, but I'd be a little concerned that it only has 2.25" piping. I think the stock exhaust is something like 2.3", and most catbacks are at least 2.5".

Yeah I know it's only 2.25 but it's a straight threw design.

OBX is generally a direct Supersprint knock off, when it comes to their MINI stuff.

I had an OBX header on my R53...worked great for what it was. Their pricing cant be beat...however if its really 2.25", its a big skip...thats smaller than stock!

**edit....just looked up the supersprint diameter and its 65mm which is 2.5". so its probably 2.5" most likely....

there's no adapters in the picture, it's likely the same size as stock, or a hair larger to slip over after you make the cut.
Either way, you're going to get what you pay for.

I don't believe I would get this exhaust because you could go custom for the same price with a bigger pipe size. It was just interesting to see another alternative to the R56 Catback.

I just got mine in the mail today, waiting for some good weather to install, since its about 20 degrees outside. I saw a video on youtube and I think it sounds decent for its price. Here are some pics of what it looks like before it goes on my MC40.

I'll be putting up a video once its on so you all can hear. I bought this for $270 shipped to my front door. If anyone is interested in buying one, let me know and I'll give you all the info.

Interested in how the installation went? Any issues/problems/concerns. Do you recommend for an R53?

I'm liking it, the only issue is that you have to cut the pipe after the cat and have that welded. Other than that, I like it.

Anyone have this on their r56? Soundclips seem non-existent.

I just received this in the mail today and will have a muffler shop professionally install it so hopefully it will get welded so there is not leaks. The welds on it look high quality, I will post sound clips when I get it installed.

I just got the catback installed today, will get vids on youtube maybe tomorrow. First impression is, this thing has a beautiful sound that isn't loud at all. If you're looking for loud with just a catback, look elsewhere. However, it does have a beautiful note, IMO. When you start the car it definitely sounds different, and there is no drone on the highway. When you punch it in 3rd it really gives a nice deep exhaust note but it's not awful like the coffee can mufflers or anything.

The guy who did my muffler work said that he hardly noticed a difference, but then again he just started the car up and didn't take it for a spin. He recommended that if I want it any louder to completely remove the resonator or even the 2nd cat(obviously) but I wanted to keep it completely CARB legal as I'm in San Diego and don't want to deal with failed smogs. However, he said he could fashion an easy adapter for the stock setup that I could just slip on whenever I needed if for some reason it didn't pass smog...I just have to determine if I really want this thing to get louder or not. I'm thinking it's great for now, considering it was only ~320 bucks with shipping, and he only charged me $60 for the install which was phenomenal I thought.

Oh, and I thought for anyone's curiosity, the pipe on this setup is 60mm, which is slightly bigger than the stated 2.25 inches.

has a nice deep tone to it...

I'd hold off a little bit before you decide to make it louder...exhausts ALWAYS get louder over time (all of mine always have).

I remember I put an Eisenmann exhaust on my Audi and nearly cried when I first started it up, sounded exactly like stock. After a while though, it sounded amazing.

I see what you mean, I can already tell after my 20mile commute to work that it's gotten louder. It's still burning in as I can smell that nastiness after pulling in my garage.

How effective are those little resonators, anyway? My muffler guy said that it probably doesn't do that much...I'm curious if anyone has tried it with and without on the same pipe setup
