I need a quiet exhaust without losing HP

I have the TC sportline exhaust which started to rust in less than a year but besides the point it is too loud after i did a couple upgrades. I did the AFE intake, ignition upgrade, exhaust (tc sportline), and the new 15% pulley. Ever since the pulley, the car is super loud and fast . I plan on putting the 17% pulley on soon and was wondering if anyone else new of an exhaust that sounded great, quiet, and does not lose any hp compared to the exhaust I have know. When I am on it you can hear me coming from miles away it seems like . There are no leaks or anything like that which would cause it to be louder than normal.

Thanks

Maybe you should go back to stock...HP from the exhaust isn't all that impressive..the sound sure is. Or maybe change your driving style.

I've got a modified Invidia exhaust with a Magnaflow resonator and it's LOUD when I'm on the gas and quiet when I carefully modulate the throttle...i.e. it's loud when I want it to be and reasonably quiet at other times. It didn't really become loud until I add the RMW shorty header though.

I have Alta 17% pully, Alta CAI and silicon down tube. I have OEM exhaust with One Ball Mod. It is raspy, and pops when I upshift in first three gears. IMO, best mod for the buck ( 70 dollars at Meineke Muffler ) and not overly loud for my kids riding in the back seat either..... I also removed chrome beer can tips and welded a set of BMP design exuast tips in their place...

Not only do you get about 3 hp gain at wheels, but lose about 35 lbs of extra weight from RR quarter. The mod removes the resonator on the pass side.........

Do you think going to a 3" instead of the 2.5" would make any difference. I really think I increased the flow to much through the exhaust I have b/c before I did the pulleys it was not to bad when I got on it.

octaneguy how did you get the gas cap door, handles, and head light trim black. Do you paint them on the car or take them off.

I put a Milltek on my MCSa right after I bought it new in '06. I've added a CAI, a UniChip and a pulley, as well as some other stuff. It's my daily driver as well as my 3 season HPDE car. I love the quietness of the Milltek and the way it has that nice burble when I am downshifting or coming to a stop. At the track, it doesn't seem to impede any airflow or contribute to any HP loss.

I have a Helix13 on my Cooper, and the difference is like night and day. The Helix can be heard form about a mile away, while the Milltek remains pretty silent in comparison. The MCSa now has 39k and the Milltek is holding up well, too...no rust, and no issues. I think I'll keep it.

I went with a 2.5" custom single side ala Cooper on my S. My butt dyno results were less low end oomph and more top end. I went back to stock. I have a 15% pulley ,CAI and a Detroit Tuned bypass valve. I think the one ball mod (which I took off for my custom ) was the best performing in my case. My point is, in my case, 2.25" stock to 2.5" cat back was less low end. What would 2.25" to 3" results be?

RMW has their "Quiet" exhaust, which is definitely quiet and doesn't hinder power production. You won't be heard coming from miles away, or from around the corner for that matter.

I love my JCW. Sometimes you can pick one up in the marketplace for a very nice price.

I have the Milltek because the Borla Sport/Race was a little too loud on my GP. I thought the JCW was too quite so maybe that would be just about right for you. Maybe you can find a used JCW exhaust by watching the NAM marktplace. The Borla Street is suppose to be quite.

+1 A write up years ago in Grassroots compared several and the manufacturer's claims compared to actual dyno results were disappointing. If I recall correctly, they ended up with a supertrapp for its "cost effective weight savings" and the ability to add or remove plates to adjust sound depending personal tastes.

The gas cap door was taken off and powdercoated. The handles were painted on the car. The headlights were opened up in an oven and painted and reassembled ala the Joey Mod.

Last year I had a lot of work done on my MINI to prep for AMVIV...you can see in my blog what I did the days before the event.

Used JCW exhaust- ebay maybe? Talk to owners in your MINI club.

One Ball is fine but HP isn't much.

Or maybe a Borla Street used- pretty quiet.

just want to make sure no one thinks the milltek is QUIET. less loud than others, yes....quiet, not really. i think jcw is what you want. it is quieter than the milltek (good luck finding, they go quickly).

I guess I can only speak for myself with respect to the Milltek. For me, it is loud when I want it to be...that, is, when I get into the accellerator at the track. Of course, there are are a lot of things adding to the loudness there...the ALTA CAI kicking in, the whine of the supercharger and the pulley, and the catback itself. But the best feeling of all for me is when I am coming off speed and listening to that fantastic burble...yeah, I know it doesn't add to the HP and all, but that sound is just what I have always imagined a great catback to have. I've even had instructors at the track comment on the great sound of my Milltek...and these guys drive those big Bimmers that I'll never be able to afford....

Before my RMW header, my Invidia was pretty quiet. Only when I really got on the gas was it loud, but never too loud and it never had any highway drone. Even now with the RMW header I still find it quiet inside the car, but my friends all say it is LOUD when I'm really into it from outside the car

Wait till your resonator goes out LOL. I changed mine to a Magnaflow and OMG it's even louder than before. Note we have the same exhaust and header. I do like the fact I can keep it quiet when I want to like creeping through my apartment complex late at night.
