Parking Lot Lotto, I won a new bumper! What else should I get?

So my 2005 Hot Orange MCSc got tagged in the parking lot today by a very nice little old lady who was very responsible and leaving her contact info when I got back from lunch today. I had to bite my tongue when she said this ruined her Sunday.

The bumper & backup sensors will need to be replaced, and the left side rear reflector arch, and the boot needs to be trued (it looks a little bit slightly lopsided).

I will have the body shop touch up the dozens of dings and scratches and chips (yahoo!)

I thought you guys on this forum would be able to suggest other stuff that I might want painted while my baby is in the shop, and it'll be cheap (or maybe free!!!!).

Any other advice?

Thanks!

The only other thing I can think of is maybe you want your black trim painted? Other than that, go for a good full polish job while it's in there!

I didn't get a darn thing cheap or free when my Mini was in for over $4000 in repairs. I asked them to pop out a tiny ding on the side and they told me it would be $150. I asked them about two scratches on the rear bumper and they told me it would be $750 to repaint the entire bumper cover. That was at a dealer, so maybe you'll have better luck.

More than likely your work will include blending paint into the hatch and rear quarter panels. You'll be amazed at how expensive it will be for her insurance company.

Oh - you might want to consider getting the M7 rear grilles put in.

What are clear tails?!??!

What black trim? Not the rubber/plastic stuff right?

I have been going to the same body shop for about 10 years now, and he's done at least 6 of my cars over that time. He takes good care of me, and already offered to do the dings and scratches for free, so I'm sure he'll happily do it now that there's some paying work.

Thanks!

Glad you're taking this whole "I got hit" thing so well.

Now... if your insurance company handles this correctly, every one of those dings is a separate claim. And, for each one of them, your Comp deductible should apply. I mean... you didn't get all those dings due to one event, right ?

And free ? No. Her insurance company needs to indemnify you. That is, they need to put you in your Pre-Accident condition. Not better.

Good luck, hope you're happy with the repair work.

True... if you get caught doing stuff like that, you'll get in some big, big trouble. I'd watch out if I were you.

Same thing here. I was told by my repair shop that the insurance companies are very tight with the money they give out, and they know exactly what it takes to fix the car, and usually give the auto-body shop less. If they suspect the body-shop of fibbing, they will send someone out to verify everything.

In fact, when I asked if my new fender was going to match the rest of my car perfectly, they said they were not obligated to match the older paint, just get it back to 'normal'.

In the end, they did a great job, and you can't tell they did work. Just scared me a little.

A trip to the body shop when they already have paint matched and panels off is a good opportunity for you to get some work done, sure, but don't try to stick it to her or her insurance company. The body shop that fixed my MINI after I damaged the bonnet always touches up paint chips, but I wouldn't think of asking them to do anything for free.

Actually... I did get something for free. A big ding in one of my white wheels. He touched it up when I saw it though - no big deal. And I did end up with another set of side "stripes" since they had to order them as a set from MINI and he had no use for them.
