MINI Winter Driving School! HPDE, Pittsburgh

WE'RE ON - AGAIN!!!!! and... at LOWER PRICES!

February 22nd, Sunday, it's on the site www.pittstopMINI.org !

We have about an hour of real, live professional winter driving instruction, then in-car professional instruction (in YOUR car!), with LOTS of practice time and LOTS of fun! We go through Mini-specific items like our traction and stability control, and the interesting parts of Mini-Cooper-specific winter driving. You can experience, firsthand, the difference between snow tires and all-seasons, traction control on/off, and other important factors - in a safe, supportive, noncompetitive environment.

Pricing will be quite fair at $50/driver, $40/co-driver for the day (sign in for Club member prices), including an excellent Subway track lunch! We start at 9, end at 3ish. Compare this to winter driving schools with half the practice time at triple the cost! We think this is important enough that the Club is even subsidizing the price!

For more information, see the Club website at www.pittstopMINI.org, or PM me!

Here's what last year's participants thought:

-36? Uuf daa! Dat's co-old! We usually don't have THAT kind of cold here in the 'burgh!

MiniChaser - you mean you only use the handbrake for parking? How un-fun!

Okie: 1200 miles of Motoring? And you're complaining about what, exactly?

I'm sure there's nothing that says a club /can't/. I think you just volunteered to organize the first in the area.

Great opportunity but it's the weekend after ArcticMINI V. I should probably have done this before we tackle the ice road.

Bumping this to the top as a reminder!

Let us know if you're coming in from out of town, or need overnight accommodations, we'll certainly work with you!

Last Reminder!

If it does NOT snow, we're prepared with either soapy water or sand (depending on temperature) to make some really interesting slippery conditions.

The setup was just finalized with BeaveRun. It will include TWO autocross-type education courses on the VDA, with separate areas to practice
- Straight line braking / threshold braking
- Slalom
- Braking while turning
- Decreasing and increasing radius corners
- Acceleration
- All with traction control / DSC on or off

We'll be practicing on the Wilson Circuit but can't make the surface slippery unless Mother Nature brings snow.

We'll have at least 2 professional driving instructors, as well as several good amateurs and Club people to guide you. We begin with a classroom setting and proceed to the three education areas (shorter lines!) for individual in-car instruction and practice.

It's TONS of fun either way, and all participants learned a LOT the last 3 times we've put this on.

We're also bringing the Big Floor Jacks, impact and torque wrenches (and pit-crew helpers!) if you want to change to summer/all-season tires in the event we're running snow-less.

PM or email me (or respond) with questions, hope everyone can make it!
