Can the stock Nav tell time
I just moved to a new area and some of the roads change direction based on time of day (i.e. morning all lanes are moving towards city, mid day it is two way and afternoon/evening all lanes move out). Anyone know if the stock Nav knows this? My little Nuvi does and directed me differently based on the time of day... I wonder if the stock nav would do the same?
Although I think the hardware in the car is capable of it, I believe the answer is no.
Here in the DC area, we have a major artery called I-66, which starts in Washington DC proper and goes west into Virginia, way out into the "boonies". However, the section of I-66 from DC itself to the Beltway (I-495) is an HOV restricted road during rush hour, meaning that the entire section of road heading in the same direction of rush hour (Eastbound into DC in the morning rush hour, Westbound into Virginia during evening rush hour) is restricted to HOV vehicles only during those times.
So what does the factory Nav do about this? Nothing... meaning it won't ever route you on that section of I-66, at any time of day, in either direction. It will only take you on I-66 when you are outside the Beltway (I-495), because that section only has one lane that is HOV during rush hour, instead of the entire road.
The programmers of the Nav system were so over-paranoid about causing someone to drive in the HOV section during HOV hours, that they decided to just not use that road at all.
Now, my example is a little bit different than what you asked, but I'd be willing to bet that your Nav will just choose to never take you on those streets, to remove the risk of taking you in the wrong direction.
Of all of the features that people complain about in the factory Nav, this one is the only one that -really- bugs me. I don't even care that much about the substandard POI system, as I mostly use the Nav to put in addresses manually. I just wish it was a bit smarter about interpreting the map data based upon time of day.
Note: It has been verified via NavTeq, who makes the map data, that I-66 is properly described on the map discs, including the time of day of HOV. That means it's the programmers of our particular Nav system (Siemens/VDO I think) who chose to do the easy thing and bypass the road altogether just because it's sometimes not OK to drive on it.

Thanx, I was actually wondering if it would recognize the time and use the Clara Barton (not sure of spelling or if that is the road I am thinking of)... my Nuvi worked when we were visiting and routed me around the area in the morning (when traveling out of town) and routed me to it at other times or when I was travelling at the right time.
