i have the non h/k unit. 2004 cooper s
recently once the volume gets above a certain level the sound stops. completely. i try to just turn off the stereo but once it turns back on there is still no sound. everytime this happens i have to turn the car completely off and turn it back on.. this turns my head lights off and everything.. it seems that its starting to shut off at lower volumes every other day. and the volume settings arent even distorting the speakers.

this is very annoying and i was wondering if anyone knows what is going on or has the same problem.

 

i sorta remember this happening in my 04, i don't remember it starting at lower and lower volumes mainly just at the very extreme

 

its not too noticable but maybe it doesnt change. did you do anything to fix it or is it just a feature? i dont remember it doing this before.

 

today it started to do something a little different. it would stay on at a decent volume and after a few mins, sound would just stop, stereo would still be on but no sound. once again i gotta turn the car off to fix it. and it keeps doing that until it is turned down about 2 notches..

anyone?

 

Did you do an after market amp? It might be a safty shut off due to over draw of power
