Advice needed!

OK, I've done some reading on parts sites and on the sticky for coilover but I need a bit of advice:

My stock upper strut mounts in the front are both cracked and need to be replaced. My options are to replace them with stock or possibly put on some sort of coilovers. I wouldnt mind the cool look of lowering my car a little bit but stock it is already pretty low and I want to keep the car practical as a daily driver. I dont track the car but have been to a drag strip once and will go again whenever some friends go. I DO "drive it like I stole it" EVERYWHERE I go.

From some people who have made decisions in this department, what would YOU do? Budget is an issue and I dont want to spend more than $1,000.

IMHO, you can replace them with Ireland Engineering fixed upper strut mounts... or OEM... the IE fixed mounts will provide slightly more negative camber, which is good for life in the twisties.

You could also swap in some camber plates - this will allow you to adjust the camber in the front, while replacing the entire upper strut mount.

And last, you could go with a set of cheapo coilovers that come with camber plates...

When my front upper strut mounts cracked, I also had mushroomed strut towers, so you might want to double check that your towers are not also mushroomed. Since I had both problems (cracked/ripped mounts plus mushroomed towers), I decided to permenently fix both problems by going to adjustable camber plates. The adjustable camber plates provide support to the strut tower and replace the rubber mount with a solid mount and bearing.

If you are interested in better handling (more front negative camber) and you want to stay with a rubber upper mount and spend less money, I would go with the Ireland fixed upper strut mounts instead of just replacing the mounts with OEM mounts. If you want a better solution that fixes multiple problems but costs a little more money than go with adjustable strut mounts instead of the Ireland mounts. One disadvantage with the fixed mounts is they just add about -1.25 degrees to whatever camber your camber car already has with no adjustment possible if the resulting camber is not what you want.
